The Position:
Position Title: Linux System Administrator
Location: Hybrid; Remote Off-Site and On-Site (as required) in Middletown, PA
Duration: 12-24+ Month Project
We are seeking a Linux System Administrator to add to our team. Project duration will be for a period of 12-24+ months. Work environment will be hybrid, primarily remote off-site with on-site presence as required.
This Linux System Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of Linux-based servers and systems. This role ensures the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the information systems that support core organizational functions. The administrator will also monitor, maintain, support, and optimize all networked software and associated operating systems.
Our Linux System Administrator will perform the following duties;
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers and systems.
- Perform system monitoring, verify the integrity and availability of hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes.
- Review system and application logs, and verify the completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
Security and Compliance;
- Implement and maintain security policies and procedures to ensure the security and integrity of the Linux systems.
- Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure/add new services as necessary.
- Performance Tuning and Capacity Planning:
- Conduct regular performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization.
- Perform capacity planning and analysis to ensure scalability and optimal performance.
- Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for Linux-related issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues promptly.
Virtualization and Cloud Integration;
- Manage virtual machines and environments using tools like KVM, VMware, or VirtualBox.
- Integrate and manage Linux systems within cloud environments, specifically Azure Cloud.
Backup and Disaster Recovery;
- Develop and maintain backup and recovery procedures.
- Ensure regular backups are performed and validated. Test recovery procedures periodically.
Documentation and Reporting;
- Maintain up-to-date documentation on system configurations, procedures, and changes.
- Generate regular reports on system performance, availability, and security.
Collaboration;
- Work closely with other IT team members to support application deployment, development, and other IT initiatives.
- Collaborate with vendors and service providers as necessary for hardware and software support.
Automation and Scripting;
- Develop and maintain scripts to automate tasks and improve efficiency.
- Use tools like Bash, Python, or Perl for scripting and automation purposes.
Project Management;
- Lead or participate in IT projects related to Linux systems and infrastructure.
- Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
The Preferred Skills and Experience:
- 8+ Years: Experience with Unix and Linux Systems Management
- Advanced level of experience with Linux server administration
- Strong understanding of ITIL Processes (Incident, Problem and Change Management)
- Working knowledge of Service Management tools, i.e., Service Center, ServiceNow etc.
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience working in a Remote Support Environment
- Ability to clearly articulate situations / issues to cross-functional teams and clients
- Team leadership skills and experience are a plus
