Department Overview
Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations and maintenance, as well as Power Generation operations. The Team manages over 100,000 circuit miles of electric distribution lines and over 18,000 circuit miles of interconnected transmission lines, and operates and maintains PG&E's hydroelectric, fossil, solar generation, and battery storage facilities, providing approximately 5,300 megawatts of generating capacity for customers. Electric Operations is comprised of approximately 6,500 coworkers.
Projects and Construction (P&C) within Electric Operations is accountable for the delivery of greater than $2B in annual Capital work, stretching from programs like Capacity and Pole Replacements to State Infrastructure projects. Work Readiness and Integration is Project and Construction’s centralized data insights and analytics team focused on in-depth assessments of P&C work delivery to aid P&C in the execution of our annual work portfolio and associated goals.
We provide one source of truth for the data, with a common set of tools, methodology, and analytics. Our span extends from portfolio planning in collaboration with our partner organizations on thorough daily workplan management to ensuring consistent, efficient data support needed for all P&C groups involved in work execution.
Position Summary
The Work Strategy Governance Principal manages all aspects of the P&C workplan by upholding the established controls and procedures to ensure accuracy and executability of all work. This will require strong attention to detail, a deep understanding of order lifecycle and the ability to identify potential gaps. In addition to maintaining the integrity of the workplan, this position will be responsible for creating insightful visualizations that demonstrate lean principals and communicate risks and solutions to leadership.
The successful candidate will have a steadfast focus on safety and compliance, in-depth knowledge of PG&E’s operations, be comfortable leading cross-functional teams, maintaining strategic and analytical oversight, communicating with leadership as appropriate, developing partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring adherence to the appropriate work planning and execution processes.
This position may require travel for on-site meetings and may also require occasional irregular work hours to meet deadlines.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and Oakland based on business needs.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $132,000
Bat Area Midpoint: $ 179,000
Bay Area Maximum: $226,000
Job Responsibilities
- Applies high level expertise, works independently and applies breadth and depth of knowledge to the most complex, largest scope and highest impact work planning processes and challenges. May work on both annual and long term planning issues and projects, analyzing situations with many abstract variables, using a holistic, big picture approach.
- Develops, influences and governs planning processes for multiple major work categories in the assigned department. Solves unique and complex problems, anticipating issues and developing innovative solutions.
- Develops integrated planning methods and systems that have wide ranging impact and application across multiple departments. Oversees the consolidation of information to develop integrated work plans, project updates, and presentation materials for regular department work plan meetings and leadership teams.
- Works with executives and senior management to support strategic planning, decision making, and to address high level work planning prioritization.
- Leads peers and stakeholders to develop prioritized and optimized long range and/or annual portfolio/work plans for multiple work categories. May oversee forecasting activities and ensure alignment with line of business deadlines. Gains buy-in and confirms plans can be executed with stakeholder organization.
- Develops appropriate monitoring mechanisms and metrics to understand actuals vs. plan. Prepares regular reports regarding annual and/or long term work plan/project portfolio completion and issues. Determines causes of issues and
- recommends solutions. Presents to senior leadership; Director level or higher.
- Leads cross-department continuous process improvement efforts to improve efficiencies and quality.
- Identifies needs, develops ideas and establishes system requirements for work planning tools. May plan and implement the delivery of user training on systems/tools.
- Manages major cross-functional projects and initiatives.
- May participate in industry benchmarking, seeking ideas and opportunities from other utilities for large scale improvements.
- May manage professional, support, employees.

Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, technical field or equivalent related experience.
- 10 years of total related experience such as integrated or strategic portfolio/work planning in an electric utility or related field.
Desired:
- MBA with an emphasis in a quantitative (e.g. data analysis) or analytical discipline.
- Prior experience with Electric / Gas Distribution or Electric Transmission programs or projects.
- Prior experience developing partnerships with internal stakeholders across engineering, construction, and support ops.
- Ability to lead large and complex projects working with cross-functional teams
- Ability to create compelling business cases based on complex business environments and inputs
- Adept at addressing issues with diplomacy and tact
