As a member of the Visuals team, the Associate Visual Producer for Campaign 2024 will be primarily focused on producing, recording, editing and delivering photo and video content for visual platforms. The content will need to be visually arresting and informative; giving you something that you didn’t know in a way that reflects the best characteristics of NPR. Ideal candidates will bring experience with all stages of production and editing. Together with a team of editors and content creators, this team members will help create distinctive NPR journalism that appeals to new audiences on visual platforms.
This is a union represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Produce, shoot and edit photography and video for multiple visual platforms.
- Clearly communicate vision, project goals, project scope and timeline in collaboration with an editor
- Uphold the highest standards for the visual tone of our storytelling
- Make sure our video storytelling is optimized and smart by surveying NPR and the competitive landscape.
- Create daily and/or weekly video projects for emerging platforms.
- Coordinate production and publication schedules for weekly projects
- Preproduce, record and deliver high-quality video interviews, whether recording remotely and in the field.
- Edit video interviews with speed and finesse for multiple visual platforms.
- Help design and implement best practices for video production workflows
- Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 2-5 years of photo and video production experience, preferably with a major network or newsroom, studio or creative agency.
- The ability to handle multiple and complex projects simultaneously under stringent time frames and changing priorities/conditions.
- Advanced knowledge of Premiere and Photoshop
- Familiarity with After Effects and Illustrator
- Knowledge of relevant formats and best practices for YouTube, Instagram and TikTok
- Experience following and improving workflows for media management and video publishing
- Experience making smart, fast, solid editorial decisions under pressure
- Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
- A deep familiarity with copyright and ethical journalism practices
- A strong interest in current events
- Proven ability to consistently work well with others, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system
- Ability and willingness to travel
- Ability and willingness to work occasional off-hour shifts, including early mornings, nights and/or weekends
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with cameras, switchers, and other video equipment
- Experience and skill with a content management system
- Experience with photo mechanic, lightroom, bridge or other photo programs

- Producer:
- Demonstrated ability to assimilate and organize large amounts of information
- Experience with managing multiple sets of stakeholders
- Field Producer:
- Experience with managing multiple cameras, lighting and audio in the field with a small team
- Experience with remote live video capture via services like Riverside, EasyLive, StreamYard, OBS, vMix, or Wirecast
- Must be able to lift video equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with a specialization in film, video, media production, photography or journalism preferred.
WORK LOCATION
- Hybrid Permitted: This is a hybrid permitted role. Some aspects of this role include duties that are better performed at an NPR facility. The employee will be required to be onsite at the Washington, DC office at least 3 days a week based on assignments. In some cases, it could be more based on assignments. The employee must also reside in an NPR supported location based on the number of onsite days they choose.

- This is a temporary full time position to end Dec. 31, 2024.
COMPENSATION
Hourly Rate: The U.S. based anticipated hourly rate for this opportunity is $42.07 per hour. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum hourly rate NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.
