Nightwing is seeking a hands-on telecommunications engineer for our expanding network simulation lab in the Dulles VA area. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of network protocols and transmission standards spanning LANs, WANs and broadband carrier infrastructure. They should be comfortable configuring, operating and troubleshooting diverse lab equipment including IT, traditional network devices, and specialized telecommunication systems/components. They should have a significant current skill base but most importantly have the aptitude and motivation to learn, grow and thrive in a challenging fast-paced technical environment.
Required Skills:
- Minimum 8 years experience in one or more of following areas:
- Implementing and troubleshooting long-haul telecommunication links including SONET/SDH, Ethernet, and OTN
- Managing all levels of network equipment and configuring related protocol layers including high-capacity transport (e.g., DWDM), multi-layered traffic (IP, Ethernet/VLAN, MPLS) and edge routing/switching
- Network capture/recording, analysis and replay, including both LAN packets and broadband bitstreams.
- Crafting network traffic (protocol layers and content) to achieve specific test objectives, including the use of system node simulators and traffic simulators.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills with ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts; must be able to effectively document network configurations, traffic formats and associated theory of operations
- Interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively in a team environment that focuses on customer support
- Must be a U.S. CITIZEN with an existing Top Secret security clearance and willing to take/pass a polygraph.
Desired Skills:
- Telecommunications engineering (PBX, VOIP, cellular networks, broadband networks, microwave, SATCOM etc.).
- Architecting of telecom networks and solutions, at multiple hierarchical levels
- Windows and Linux administration including system installation and configuration
- Deployment and operation of servers, network devices, and/or storage arrays
- Management of virtualization technology (KVM, VMWare, Hyper-V)
- Ability to develop unique and creative solutions to new requirements in a fast paced, quick response environment
- USG Top Secret security clearance with existing polygraph
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related technical discipline. Master’s Degree preferred.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
