SUMMARY
Supervise and coordinate the mechanic team throughout the setup, maintenance, troubleshooting and operation of high speed, PLC controlled automatic packaging equipment. Strong electrical diagnostic and troubleshooting skills are required to effectively lead the repair and maintenance teams supporting all automated packaging and sensing equipment. This is a lead by example position and daily activities will include hands-on expertise as well as team leadership and supervision to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all automatic packaging equipment systems. Maintains a cGMP production environment and standards throughout the production area(s) through leadership example setting. Adheres to all workplace environmental, health and safety (EHS) guidelines and procedures while actively promoting and enforcing adherence.
This is a customer-facing role and customer interaction will be a part of daily activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties will be assigned as necessary.
- Schedules, allocates resources, and assists with the setup of various automated packaging equipment including removal of previous tooling, removal and replacement of covers and guarding for access of cleaning crew.
- Schedules, allocates resources, and assists with all Preventative and On Demand Maintenance activities, including calibration of packaging equipment, overseeing OEM support and calibration specialist personnel, and appropriately documents all activities per Sharps procedures.
- Assists in equipment installation, qualification and commissioning activities.
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and OEM technical documents.
- Ability to assist with the development and author technical documents such as Change Controls and SOP’s.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair machine breakdowns.
- Removes/repairs or replaces defective parts.
- Ensure that PM’s are performed as per the established schedules.
- Recommend changes to the PM schedule where required.
- Helps train and develop Machine Operators and new mechanic hires.
- Logs data into process check sheets.
- Corresponds with team members via email daily and attends project meetings when required.
- Attends daily Operations meetings with a focus on scheduling of resources and updating the team on downtime and issues.
- Provides annual reviews for Mechanics and responsible for yearly goals and performance management.
- Hours will be shift based, but flexibility to work weekends is required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly Supervises Mechanics in support of Operations. Daily Mechanical Services leadership by example. Provides annual reviews for direct reports.

Travel may be required in support of ongoing and new equipment development.
Computer Skills
Must have a thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma required. Requires min. of 8 years of industrial automation/packaging experience. A strong desire to learn new systems and expand individual knowledgebase is mandatory.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to troubleshoot issues under high demand situations.
