The Role
This position is responsible for performing as an interior designer on Multi-family interior renovation and new development projects within AvalonBay. This role will work with the project designers and managers on the execution of schematic design, design development and construction documentation and FFE on these projects, as well as overseeing the construction administration phase; collaborating with the team from start to finish ensuring desired project execution. This role will need to be very proficient in Revit, with a working knowledge of construction documentation and Enscape rendering.
Job description:
- Act as a designer for inhouse designed projects such as New Development and Interior Renovation Projects (Capital Projects, CapEx and Non-routine projects). Work with project managers and designers in maintaining project schedules, deadlines and communicating with internal groups to work through project timelines and ensure success from start to finish.
- Develop schematic design, design development and construction document packages: Setting up project Revit model, cartoon overall construction documentation set (plans, elevations, standard details and schedules). Collaborating with project team to document project design content in a way that is clear for implementation.
- Select and document detailed FFE specifications and manage procurement process for furniture, artwork, and accessories for various projects.
- Collaborate with internal AvalonBay departments (Corporate and regional teams) and with external consultants as it relates to project scopes.
- Work with internal design team on construction administration processes such as attending construction calls, reviewing, and responding to submittals and RFI’s, conducting punch walks.
- Responsible to review and conform to AVB standards.
Job requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design from an accredited program
- 1-3 years of experience in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field (including internship experience)
- Must have a knowledge and understanding of construction documentation and construction administration process.
- Must have a strong knowledge of Revit software.
- Must have a knowledge of furniture selection and procurement experience.
- This role is expected to be flexible and collaborative, bringing forth technical and design ideas to the team as well as absorbing knowledge and growing.
- Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Occasional travel required within the US.
- Proficient in Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, Enscape, and Microsoft Office
- Understanding of construction, materials, and methods
- Take initiative and ownership of project tasks.
- In preparation to take the NCIDQ exam; highly encouraged to complete within 4 years of graduation.
- LEED Accreditation preferred.
