GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Stratford Parents’ Place (SPP), a Family Resource Center based at Stratford Academy provides support to families. The Resource Center through school-family-community connections including parent engagement, parent leadership, and family literacy efforts help to accelerate the closing of the achievement gap.
The Parent Educator is responsible for delivering all components of the Parents as Teachers (PAT) model using the PAT Foundational Curriculum. This includes conducting home visits with families and childcare providers, providing resource and referral services for parents, and support and training for parents and early childhood professionals. The SPP Site Coordinator supervises this position.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide home visiting services through the PAT model to a caseload of families on a regular basis.
Complete screenings for each enrolled family, including supporting families who complete screenings through the Sparkler App.
Manage the Family, Friends, and Neighbors home childcare provider program. This program offers home visits and monthly Cafe Nights for the providers, screenings for enrolled children, and maintenance and distribution of Ready to Go Learning Bags.
Provide parenting discussions using the PAT curriculum during parent-child activity groups on a weekly basis.
Present parenting workshops on a variety of topics as needed.
Collect and record data on services provided as required.
Assess the needs of Stratford families and provide appropriate information, resources, and referrals.
Develop and maintain partnerships with the Stratford Public Schools and the community.
Conduct outreach activities as needed.
Perform related work as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree from an accredited college or university. Bachelor's degree preferred.
A major in early childhood education, education, human services, social work, or a related field.
Two years of related home visiting experience; or a combination of education and experience.
Good knowledge of child development, parenting practices, and community resources.
Good oral and written communication.
Good ability to relate to people on an individual and group basis.
Good ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, officials of other agencies, and the general public.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
May be required to travel short distances on business.
Spanish bilingual preferred.
Parents as Teachers certification preferred.
TERM Grant funded position 196 days August 2024- June 2025. Annual renewal based on grant renewal.
