Facilities Management Division: The Lead HVACR Mechanic will be part of the Facilities Management Division. This Division of 118 staff provides for the care and maintenance of the Department’s physical assets including facilities, pavement, fleet, and major building systems. With a budget over $13 million dollars, the division is responsible for facility condition assessments, major and minor maintenance programs, and serves as the primary support to the Department’s Capital Improvement Projects (CIP). The division strives to achieve a balance between the upkeep of aging facilities and new construction by integrating a number of CIP and major maintenance projects into the daily work program each year.
The HVAC Shop consists of 8 staff dedicated to the management of Montgomery Parks’ HVACR systems. Our Lead HVACR Mechanic will be responsible for performing a full range of skilled heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) work involving the highest level and complexity and variety. Duties include communicating, coordinating, and scheduling work with supervisors, stakeholders, and staff members daily. This position is also responsible for leading projects from estimation to completion, and will direct, lead, coordinate, and monitor the work of Trades Apprentices, Park/Facilities Maintenance Workers, and HVACR Mechanics. Examples of Important Duties
Performs Skilled HVACR Tasks
Assists in assigning of work orders for HVACR projects; receives and completes assigned work orders.
Reads and interprets plans to determine equipment, materials, and methods required to complete jobs.
Works with Mechanic IIs and Mechanic Is in the diagnosing of major problems, electrical and mechanical.
Oversees and completes installs, modifies, tests, connects, maintains, adjusts, and repairs HVACR systems and equipment of various tonnages and BTU outputs, including accessories and components.
Administrative Related Tasks
Accurately estimates materials, tools, equipment, and supplies needed for assigned projects.
Prices and orders materials, equipment, and supplies accurately, per division policy.
Prepares precise written specifications for bids and price quotes.
Maintains inventory and stock for shop tools, equipment, and materials on consistent basis.
Assignments
Coordinates efforts of various trade crews and/or contractors to maintain schedules.
Monitors and approves work of contractors for proper workmanship and adherence to specifications defined by the Commission.
Works with architects and engineers to review plans, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
Important Skills and Characteristics
Skilled in the operation of hand and power tools; light construction equipment, motor vehicles; and appropriate office equipment.
Ability to estimate time and materials.
Ability to lead skilled HVACR work with limited supervision.
Ability to keep and schedule and multi-task.

Preferred Qualifications
Extensive knowledge of installation, repair, metal fabrication, and maintenance of HVACR systems.
Knowledge of Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), fire, and building codes.
Knowledge of database software.
Understanding of confined space procedures and hazardous materials.
Previous leadership experience.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
Completion of an approved HVACR apprentice program or four (4) years of progressively responsible experience.
Four (4) years of experience at the journey level including two (2) years of experience directing the activities of other skilled HVACR Mechanics.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total eight (8) years.
Master HVACR License issued by appropriate local jurisdiction.
Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
Depending on area of assignment, a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements may be required.
Pass Commission medical examination.
