About the Position: The University Police department is dedicated to ensuring the University Community's right to a crime free environment through exemplary and professional service. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Emergency Preparedness and Continuity Coordinator (Administrative Support Coordinator II). The Division of Administration and Finance provides services and support to over 45,000 diverse students, faculty, and staff at Cal State Fullerton. It is the mission of the Division to provide customer-focused support and steward our physical and financial resources in order to fulfill the University’s mission and support student success. As part of the Division, the Cal State Fullerton Police Department (CSUF PD) provides contemporary law enforcement and emergency preparedness safety services including emergency management, business continuity, patrol, public safety, traffic, investigations, community engagement, crime prevention, and security services. This position, under general supervision of the Emergency Preparedness and Continuity (EP&C) Manager, provides direct support to the campus community (student, faculty, and staff) in tasks related to emergency preparedness and mission continuity to support a safe, inclusive, and welcoming university environment for all Titans to thrive. As a team member of Cal State Fullerton Police Department, the Emergency Preparedness and Continuity Coordinator shall support efforts to ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion are incorporated into department operations, programs, services, and culture. The Emergency Preparedness and Continuity Coordinator shall represent Cal State Fullerton Police Department and Cal State Fullerton by providing exceptional customer service while supporting the emergency preparedness and mission continuity needs of the university community. This position has been established to enhance the mission of Cal State Fullerton and support a diverse campus community that is prepared to respond in case of a disaster or emergency that occurs on the University. The resiliency of the University and Titan community will be strengthened with the appointment of this position by assisting in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, training and exercising those policies and procedures. The Emergency Preparedness and Continuity Coordinator will also aid in the assessment of essential campus functions and mitigating hazards and risks that threaten those functions. The Emergency Preparedness and Continuity Coordinator will espouse openness and transparency, and will be comfortable in public dialogue, both formal and informal. Other duties as assigned. |
Essential Qualifications | High School diploma or the equivalent and five years of progressively responsible experience in general office, clerical or secretarial work or the equivalent. Comprehensive and detailed knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures. Thorough mastery of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Expertise in using office software packages, technology, and systems. Ability to independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects. Ability to independently interpret and apply policies and procedures and use judgment and discretion to act when precedents do not exist. Ability to troubleshoot most office administration problems and respond to all inquiries and requests related to work area. Ability to understand problems from a broad perspective and anticipate the impact of office administration problems and solutions on other areas. Ability to analyze operational and procedural problems and develop, recommend, and evaluate proposed solutions. Ability to perform business math, analyze budgetary data, and make accurate projections requiring some inference. Ability to effectively write and present own reports. Ability to effectively handle interpersonal interactions at all levels including highly sensitive interpersonal situations. Ability to use negotiation and persuasion skills to achieve results and expedite projects. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position. |
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s degree in Emergency Management, Homeland Security, or related field is highly desirable. Professional Experience: Two or more years of work experience in a related field with general knowledge of emergency management and business continuity concepts. Professional experience in an academic setting, ideally a university of similar complexity and size is highly desirable. |
License/Certifications | A Valid California Driver’s License. Completion of essential Incident Command System ICS courses (ICS 100, 200, 300 and 400) National Incident Management System IS 700 and 800 certifications within the first year of employment. Completion of First Aid/CPR/AED certificate within first year and maintained throughout. |

Occasional overnight travel is expected of this position. Will be required to be accessible 24/7, including evenings and weekends. Call back is a strong possibility given the critical nature of the position. Must be willing to respond to mutual aid emergency requests at any of the other 22 CSU campuses or from other emergency management entities. May require attendance at trainings, conferences, and meetings out of the area and away from the campus for several days. This position will require the person to walk on campus, walk on paved, unpaved, uneven paths, roads, walkways, upstairs, ladders, reach, enter small spaces, kneel, squat, in areas such as offices, academic classrooms, laboratories, industrial areas, athletic fields, housing structures, parking structures, and retail food facilities; enter and monitor dusty, noisy, hot and cold areas or areas purported to contain unknown odors, smells, and/or chemicals. |
