We are seeking a Full-Time Registered Behavior Technician to help effectively support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Columbia, MD. The Behavioral Technician uses best practices and technology within a home and community-based setting to teach individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities how to acquire the physical, intellectual, emotional, and social skills needed to live as independently as possible. The Behavior Technician provides instructional sessions with the participant’s support network regarding the recommendations, strategies, and next steps identified in the Behavior Plan.
Responsibilities
Provide onsite services to participants with intellectual and developmental disabilities through evidence based and data driven methodologies that include trauma informed care and positive behavior supports
Model and implement behavioral support strategies specified in the Behavior Plan that assist the participant with acquiring, retaining, improving, and generalizing the behavioral, self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills necessary to function successfully in the home and the community
Provide timely and structured written feedback to the clinicians on the provision and effectiveness of the Behavior Plan and strategies
Participate in onsite meetings or instructional sessions with the participant’s support network regarding the recommendations, strategies, and next steps identified in the Behavior Plan
Collect data on progress and work collaboratively to ensure effective behavior reduction, skill acquisition, and skill generalization
Prepare progress reports for the participant’s team as needed
Provide a safe and supportive environment
Employees must cooperate with the licensee and department staff in any inspection, inquiry or investigation
Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
Successfully complete a 40-hour behavioral technician training
Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
Knowledge of Positive Behavior Supports
Ability to implement Behavior Plans independently and confidently
Ability to establish a comfortable and supportive relationship with participants receiving supports
Ability to exercise good judgment and remain calm in crisis situations
Ability to collect, interpret, and graph data
Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent time management skills
Working Conditions
Ability to work some evenings and weekends
Frequent lifting, stretching, and other physical exertion may be required
Required to utilize personal vehicle
May be required to lift or move 25+ pounds
May be exposed to various medical conditions and communicable diseases
