PROMOTIONAL EXAMINATION – ONE YEAR PROBATIONARY PERIOD
NOTE: This recruitment is restricted to City of Glendale employees who meet the promotional eligibility requirement as noted below.
In accordance with Civil Service Rule IV, Section 17, and at the request of the Police Department, the eligible list for this list shall be in effect for one year.
Under general direction of senior management, acts as lead worker and conducts shift supervision of Jail personnel and provides proper care for arrested and sentenced persons. Ensures compliance with Title 15 regulations, provides support to Department personnel.
Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:
Ensures Department services are provided with exceptional customer service and the highest ethical standards.
Supervises assigned staff and reviews and evaluates work performance. Assists in the hiring, training and disciplinary actions of assigned staff.
Plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the work of assigned staff.
Prepares and maintains a variety of written and computerized reports including time cards, work schedules, worksheets, incident reports, annual performance evaluations, and equipment maintenance and repair requests.
Trains and develops assigned staff as needed; assists in the planning and schedules on-going training.
Provides input in the development of the Bureau's goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards, and actively supports their implementation.
Scheduling, supervising, training, and evaluating Jail personnel, ensures that Jail is operating within policy guidelines, directives and applicable local, state and federal laws; maintains court liaison with the Glendale Municipal Court, including making arrangements for transporting in-custodies to arraignments or handling video arraignments, assisting sworn personnel with security for in-custodies at court building, insuring proper transfer of in-custodies and appropriate paperwork to other agencies.
Performs general duties of Police Custody Officer as required.
May act for the Bureau Commander in his/her absence.
Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe, efficient manner.
Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.
Experience
Three years of experience in the maintenance and operation of a Jail facility. One year of lead worker or Sr. Custody Officer experience.
Education/Training
Graduation from high school or attainment of GED or CHSPE certificate.
Completion of the mandated Standards and Training for Corrections STC Jailer course.
License(s)/Certification(s)
Valid Class C California driver's license.

Special Conditions
Within four months of employment, all employees of the Police Department are required to live within a radius of sixty contiguous land miles of the Glendale Civic Center.
TATTOO POLICY: Unless otherwise exempted by the Chief of Police, no employee or volunteer of the Glendale Police Department shall have any visible tattoos, body art, or other skin markings while on duty – in uniform, business attire, or casual dress. Tattoos, body art, and/or other skin markings shall be completely covered by the authorized on-duty uniform (e.g. long sleeve uniform), business attire, or casual dress. Marks or scars from injuries or medical procedures are exempt from these policy restrictions. Promotional Eligibility
Any City of Glendale employee who meets the minimum qualifications for this position, has completed probation or six months of City employment, and is occupying a permanent full-time classification on file in the Human Resources Department. Hourly City employees may be considered, provided that they furnish proof of continuous employment immediately preceding the final filing date, which would equal a minimum of six months of full-time service or 1040 part-time hours. (Civil Service Rule VIII 4-E).
