The Clinical lab Scientist in Transfusion Services will perform Transfusion Service procedures, both routine and Stat; Communicate effectively; Enter date/test results into computer accurately; Use and/or operate equipment in transfusion service operation; Perform additional tests, projects or special studies as requested.
Workdays and hours are subject to change reflecting the laboratory needs. (Variable) Monday through Friday, with weekend rotation, occasional assigned mandatory overtime and rotated paid on call hours. Some earlier or later shifts may be required. Typical shift hours are: Day 0730-1600, evening 1530-0000, night 2330-0730, swing 1230-2100 with some slight variations. Transfusion Service has 3 separate labs: Parnassus, Mission Bay, and Mount Zion. The CLS will have a primary work location but may be required to rotate to one of the other locations if workload dictates.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Prefer two years’ Blood Banks or transfusion service experience in a high volume lab within the past five years, to include, but not exclusive of, experience in:
Selection and crossmatch of blood for the sensitized or problem recipient.
Antibody identification and titers.
Serologic follow-up of transfusion reactions.
Blood Banks quality control procedures.
Problems associated with transfusion of the neonate.
Use of hospital and laboratory information (computer) systems.
Experience performing testing on an automated platform
Bachelor of Science degree
A valid California Department of Health Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or a limited license in Immunohematology
Maintain active license and follow Clinical Lab CLS licensure policy
Recent experience performing testing in a clinical lab setting
