Job Summary Our LPN's daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, monitoring basic patient health such as vital signs and overall condition, taking patient histories and maintaining documentation and providing personal care. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), which is consistent with their cope of practice, education and skills. The LPN contributes to the planning, implementation and evaluation of care by gathering of data and communicating information to the RN. Qualifications Job Requirements Experience: Preferred experience working in a psychiatric inpatient setting. Qualifications Education: Graduate from an accredited program of professional nursing required. Experience: A minimum of a years’ experience in a psychiatric health care setting is preferred. Licensure: Current license to practice nursing in Ohio (LPN/LVN) or eligible to receive or renew. Additional Requirements: Trained in non-violent physical crisis intervention (BLS) and CPR prior to accepting independent assignment or released from orientation. Primary Responsibilities and Job Specifications Maintain structure to provide therapeutic environment. Orient patient/family to program. Explain and enforce patient rights. Provide accurate, concise reports. Identify and document reports, employee problems, repairs needed, need policy/procedure changes, etc. Knowledgeable regarding infection control policies/procedures. Assure use of universal precautions. Effectively handle emergency situations. Effectively participate with team in planning and providing care. Demonstrate customer service when dealing with: Patients, families, calls to other units, other team members, other departments, physicians, etc. Create a “positive” environment. Assure structure of program is maintained. Ensure 15 minute patient rounds are completed. Supervise Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) and create work assignments (if necessary). Intervene immediately with staff. Ability to manage and coordinate in unpredictable and changing situations. Discuss problems/issues with Unit Coordinator or Shift Supervisor. Participate in orientation of new staff, students and others. Participate in providing feedback for evaluation of staff. Identify specific areas for improvement. Participate in performance improvement activities/committees. Participate in improving and changing the program. Work Environment: Clean, well-lit work environment, our nurses can sit and/or stand for long periods of time, high stress active work environments at times, the active work environment can be slow, the environment can have continuous low and high voices and office machine noise This individual must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Diplomacy and discretion are essential. This individual must have the ability to prioritize responsibilities. Professional demeanor and appearance is required.
