JOB SUMMARY
Associates in this role will be involved in analyzing business operations, reporting financial results, preparing consolidated financial statements, and making recommendations to management for multiple legal entities. They will also contribute their expertise in manufacturing and/or supply chain accounting, including inventory valuation methodologies, cost variance analyses, process automation or re-engineering, or implementation of manufacturing/supply chain management systems. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining financial records and ledgers; internal/external financial reporting and analysis; preparing discounted cash flow models for capital projects; costing analysis and inventory valuation for manufacturing and supply chain operations; tracking capital expenditures in accordance with corporate spending policies; budgeting and forecasting for various business segments; performing all accounting functions in accordance with GAAP. Senior Accountants possess advanced knowledge and experience in technical accounting, audit, tax, and finance-related concepts. Associates in this position have some level of autonomy to direct their own work. They may be responsible for occasional supervision of junior accounting staff and involvement in business projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and distribute consolidated financial statements for multiple legal entities
- Analyze, interpret, and communicate complex financial information to business leaders and senior management
- Provide advanced financial analysis and for various business segments and multiple legal entities
- Manage special projects and ad hoc reporting
- Coordinate and facilitate annual financial and tax audits
- Participate in monthly and annual closing process
- Prepare journal entries and complete various general ledger operations
- Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts and corresponding schedules
- Evaluate proposed financial accounting standards from FASB, effectively plan and design systems and processes for implementation and accurate reporting
- Participate in planning, budgeting, forecasting, and various financial analyses throughout the organization
- Develop and maintain cost accounting system to ensure accurate costing for manufacturing and supply chain operations
- Review and analyze standard costs and actual costs for variances; update standard costs to ensure accuracy in bill of materials (BOMs)
- Analyze changes in costs related to business activities such as raw materials, purchases, inventory, and labor
- Lead financial activities and prepare journal entries related to inventory valuation
- Coordinate and assist with periodic inventories including preparation, cutoffs, audit of counts, and reconciliations
- Implement and maintain internal financial controls and procedures
- Design and maintain the accuracy and efficiency of systems and processes that interface with financial systems throughout the company
- Review business processes and propose ideas for standardization, automation, or efficiency improvement within the department
- Assist in the examination of work for accuracy, timeliness, relevance, and conformance to policies and procedures
- Coach, teach, train peers on financial systems, processes, and procedures
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance from a four-year university required.
- Five to seven (5-7) years’ experience in accounting or finance related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Previous experience in retail grocery, manufacturing, supply chain, real estate and/or financial services (MSB) strongly preferred.
- Previous experience with ERP and business intelligence systems, specifically Yardi Voyager, Microsoft AX Dynamics, and/ or Oracle Fusion Cloud strongly preferred.
- Previous experience in advanced accounting and consolidation for multiple business segments or legal entities strongly preferred.
- CPA credentials preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Key accounting experience: manufacturing/ Cost accounting; Projects/ fixed assets; Joint ventures/ partnership
- Key industry experience: Retail, manufacturing, or supply chain
- Demonstrated proficiency with ERP and business intelligence systems.
- Demonstrated proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Demonstrated progression in the complexity of auditing, accounting, tax, and finance knowledge.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete projects with little to no supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
- Advanced business acumen with demonstrated analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to collaborate with a multi-department team and communicate effectively across all business levels within the organization.
- Ability to review, analyze, and interpret common professional and technical journals, financial accounting standards, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to interpret and implement technical GAAP, tax, and finance standards.
- Ability to prepare complex reports and presentations and present data in a meaningful way.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency with database management as it relates to financial reporting preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish/ English) preferred.
- Regularly required to sit; to use hands and arms for tasks that require reaching, handling, and typing; to talk and listen in individual & group settings.
- Occasionally required to stand and walk.
