DEPARTMENT SUMMARY
Under the supervision of laboratory leadership and in accordance with hospital and laboratory policies and procedures, performs low, moderate, and high complexity testing in all laboratory areas including the core laboratory, blood bank, and microbiology at all Aultman Laboratory locations (Aultman Canton, Aultman Alliance, Aultman Orrville, and Aultman Massillon).
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of routine and complex laboratory procedures using standard and specialized techniques, instrumentation, and equipment on a wide variety of biological specimens to assist the provider in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. To exercise professional judgment to recognize, prioritize, and facilitate varying test requests and workload in an efficient manner. To assume responsibility and accountability for accuracy of procedures performed. To meet minimum staffing/workload needs in multiple laboratory areas and locations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science degree, including twelve-month training in an approved program for Medical Laboratory Science, with certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientistist by an approved certifying agency or Bachelor of Science degree with MLT certification and/or necessary experience to be designated as a registry eligible MLS.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a clinical laboratory required.

- Assists accessioning as needed to receive and process laboratory specimens.
- Successfully operates instrumentation in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures at all Laboratory Locations.
- Performs testing and quality control using approved laboratory procedures and instrumentation.
- Exercise professional judgment to recognize, prioritize and facilitate varying test requests and workload in an efficient manner.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and department meetings as required.
- Perform instrument/equipment maintenance according to department guidelines and manufacturer's specifications at all Laboratory Locations.
- Mentor students and new employees by providing a positive experiential learning environment.
- Is aware of and adheres to regulatory guidelines.
- Assist Technical Specialist and Assistant Manager with duties as assigned.
- Cross training to all areas in the department is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Varied shifts (days, afternoons, and midnights)
- Flexible shift length (4, 8, 10, 12 hour shifts)
- No assigned weekends or holidays
- Float differential paid on worked hours
- Lunch periods and breaks are coordinated with other staff members to maintain
adequate floor coverage.
