POSITION PROFILE
The Manufacturing Engineer will support the introduction of CNC processing at the Grand Rapids, Michigan site. We are purchasing a new CNC router that will be used to manufacture aluminum frame components for our new product, Rockwell Unscripted, wall sections. The ME will also be responsible to support existing processes in the Grand Rapids site such as metal cutting, stamping, and other processes used to manufacture existing Dividends and Antenna product.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Be capable of creating and editing CNC programs for CNC equipment using CADCAM software.
Provide floor support to troubleshoot process problems
Develop, revise and document manufacturing processes to meet cost, quality, scrap, labor and safety goals
Collect and analyze process data by coordinating efforts of production and quality for effective problem solving
Provide project planning and coordination among support groups for successful introduction of improved production capital and tooling and line moves associated with lean initiatives
Plan and troubleshoot new line startups, consistently meet project milestones
Assures the highest quality, least costly manufacturing processes
Support of existing production with regard to day to day production is required
This position also requires working closely with product development both onsite and offsite to help design products for manufacturing. This collaboration with product development occurs throughout the design cycle, from the early ideation phase to actual implementation. Also required will be piece part costing to be completed at different project stages, from conceptual to final piece part quotes. Detailed expense tracking is also required
Assures that Lean Manufacturing principles are expanded and adhered to throughout Knoll GR. Assures utilization of appropriate documentation and visual aids (standardized work, combination tables, kanban tickets, heijunka tags, etc.).
Assists in program launches. Coordinates with Product Development, Quality, Safety, and Production to assure process capability, generic equipment design, and optimum work balancing ensured prior to program launches.
Assures the Integrity of manufacturing processes is maintained and improved after program launch by developing process checks/controls, and a method to trigger a response when the checks/controls indicate a deviation from established parameters
Participates as a member of the GR Engineering Team
INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE:
Possess experience in specifying capital equipment and contracting fixture designs and builds
Possess experience in tool selection and process optimization (cycle time reduction, tool life improvements)
Will have 5-10 years of experience with CNC machining, preferably aluminum extrusions
Will have demonstrated project management skills
Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
B.S. Degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering
