This is an entry level position in the Executive Accounting Series. The Office of Comptroller Operations is supportive of career growth opportunities and candidates in this job title may be promoted into an Executive Accounting Specialist upon successful completion of a probationary period and at least one year as an Accounting Associate.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As an Accounting Associate, you will perform accounting related duties in assisting with the review, processing, recording, and controlling of financial data for loans administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development, Department of Transportation, Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority, and Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. You will be responsible for helping with the preparation of various financial statements, special reports, and analysis. Considerable knowledge of financial reporting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is required. This position reports to the team supervisor and the Loan Accounting and Processing Unit (LAPU) Manager in the Financial Accounting Division of the Bureau of Accounting and Financial Management (BAFM).
Individual work assignments and responsibilities are determined based on the complexity of funds, programs, enterprises, operations, grants or agencies involved. You will receive technical guidance on new or unusual occurrences from the team supervisor and LAPU Manager or higher level professional accountants in areas such as application of agency policies, applicable regulations, and special project requirements, and advanced accounting procedures or theory.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time, with occasional in-office days when work dictates such requirements. You will be required to report to headquarters to pick up your equipment and attend periodic meetings at your expense. Please keep in mind that while this is a full-time telework position, that can change at any time at the Governor's discretion. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Three years as an Accounting Assistant (commonwealth title) and completion of 21 college credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting;or
Two years as a Fiscal Technician (commonwealth title) and completion of 21 college credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting;or
A bachelor’s degree including 21 credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting;or
An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 21 college credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting.
Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
