About being our Inspector
As our Inspector, you will be part of Psomas' Construction Management (CM) Group, while supporting specific assignments for the Bay Area Regional CM Team. This team specializes in managing the construction of heavy civil, public works infrastructure projects - primarily upgrades and expansions to wastewater/water treatment plants and associated facilities, recycled water facilities, pipelines, and pump stations. You may observe and inspect a combination of civil, mechanical, electrical, and structural elements. As our Inspector, you observe and document the daily construction to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, and codes while adhering to safety practices; understanding client goals; establishing and maintaining effective client relationships; and helping develop others on the team. Our Inspectors work in the field on project sites, therefore candidates must reside locally and/or be able to make the daily commute.
This opening is for an assignment located in the East Bay and/or South Bay. You may observe and inspect a combination of civil, mechanical, electrical, and structural elements. It is a full-time role with occasional night and weekend work. Both locations consist of multiple projects over the next several years, plus opportunity for future backlog.
Responsibility Highlights for our Inspector
- Prepare and maintain daily reports, including taking photos and taking measurements, calculations, computation of quantities, and review the contractor's schedule progress
- Coordinate activities with clients/owners, consultants, contractors, designers, and regulatory agencies and support labor compliance efforts
- Observe and document hydrostatic pressure testing, megger testing, equipment functionality testing and programming and/or input/output (IO) testing
- Coordinate field special inspections for material sampling and testing and coordinate with the contractor for planning and scheduling required inspections
- Inform team of possible changed conditions and track/oversee force account work
- Review and provide input on potential change order issues, track and record disputed work, and/or change order work
- Review contractor stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) and report per local jurisdiction requirements
- Assist with monthly pay estimates, measure and record pay quantities
Minimum Qualifications to be our Inspector
- High School diploma or equivalent education
- 5+ years of relevant experience inspecting public works for local agencies, municipalities, and utilities and/or a background that includes general civil infrastructure, public works, and/or underground construction
- Knowledge of the construction process and the ability to read, understand, and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications and ability to exercise independent judgement in day-to-day interpretation of standards and specifications
- Excellent verbal, written, and digital communication skills including fluency with Microsoft programs and construction management software
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision and manage deadlines
- Ability to work on an active construction site, including walking over uneven terrain, climbing ladders, crawling, stooping and entering confined spaces, being outdoors in inclement weather, wearing proper safety equipment, and practicing industry safety protocols
Preferred Qualifications for our Inspector
- Associates Degree, Construction/Project Management certifications, and/or relevant certifications
- International Code Council (ICC) certifications and training and/or American Public Works Association (APWA) Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII)

General prevailing wage determination made by the Director of Industrial Relations pursuant to California Labor Code part 7, chapter 1, article 2, sections 1770, 1773 and 1773.1 for commercial building, highway, heavy construction and dredging projects.
