The Cyber and Investigative Operations Department, N951, seeks a collaborative, risk taking, and innovative Project Leader to advance the delivery of high quality, high impact work for our DOJ sponsor. N951 Project Leaders operate with a focus on delivering innovative solutions that enable our sponsors to impose risk and consequences on adversaries operating in cyberspace.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Lead a ~1.5 FTE project, Sequoia, to engage and assist the DOJ sponsor as they apply cyber capabilities to their mission combatting transnational organized crime. Specifically the Project Lead will:
- Lead research into encrypted mobile communications and applications to identify potential avenues to seed distrust amongst criminal organizations through technical means.
- Build and maintain relationships with our DOJ sponsors
- Develop a thorough understanding of the customer’s mission, environment, and critical challenges.
- Assist in shaping project work to address our sponsor’s most critical mission challenges and alignment with the portfolio strategy.
- Ensure development of data-driven technical products and actionable solutions to support our Sponsor’s most critical challenges and outcomes.
- Contribute to the technical work program.
- Maintain a presence at the Sponsor Site – Washington, DC
- Mentor project staff
- Connect MITRE’s internal research and its connections across Government to bring sophisticated capabilities that address sponsor’s mission needs
Basic Qualifications:
- Strong technical experience in one or more of the following areas: mobile communications, software development/engineering, computer science, and/or cyber operations.
- Understanding of DOJ sponsor environment
- Ability to think outside the box and be willing to explore new research and technical domains to include 5G, SIM cards, and mobile communications.
- Typically a Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of related experience; or 2 years and a Master’s degree or 1 year and a PhD.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills, including effective technical presentation skills.
- Solid systems engineering skills.
- Experience leading a small-size multi-disciplined team.
- Experience operating in support of Senior Executives and law enforcement staff.
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain trusted sponsor relationships.
- Proven team builder with ability to work across Program Division and MITRE Labs bringing required staffing resources to bear.
- Proven ability to provide objective solutions and recommendations to address critical sponsor challenges.
- Active Secret with ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI clearance.
- This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years’ experience supporting the DOJ.
- Ability to quickly respond to changing program and political environment while keeping strategic focus intact
- An active TS/SCI clearance is desirable
