About the Department Services:
The Residential Services Division consists of a Juvenile Detention Center and two post-adjudicated facilities. The facilities house youth who are awaiting court and youth who are placed into the department’s custody by the juvenile courts. The facilities provide direct care and supervision for all youth placed with the department along with providing mental health and behavioral treatment programs.
About the Position:
The Parent Partner will focus on approaches to maximize family engagement in HCJPD's residential facilities. This position will stress the importance of being actively engaged in the treatment of their child while in residential care while empowering the family to advocate for their child. The Parent Partner will work closely with caseworkers and clinical staff in creating a team approach meeting the needs of the child and the family. The parent partner will work with the facility resource specialist to plan events centered around family participation. This position will assist families with barriers and challenges that prevent family participation.
The Parent Partner will assist in transition planning by working closely with Juvenile Probation Officer (JPO) of record in connecting families with community-based resources ensuring a smooth re-entry into the community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serves as liaison between their assigned caseload, JPO, therapist, facility staff and community agencies.
Supports and encourages families to educate themselves by attending parent education classes and providing them with material pertaining to mental health, educational, and other pertinent issues.
Responsible for assisting with the youth and family connection as they in accessing mental health, social, educational, and supportive services.
Participates in staff meetings, family engagement events, visitation, and case plan staffing’s.
Facilitates an in-person or virtual parent support group.
Addresses crisis situations and coordinates necessary assistance for the family.

Requirements
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution.
Must have personal experience dealing with/and advocating for their own child or close relative involved in a mental health system, juvenile justice system, Child Protective Services, or similar agencies.
NOTE: Working for an agency does not qualify, only "lived personal experience".
Licensure:
Must possess a valid Texas driver's license with appropriate liability auto insurance coverage.
Additional Requirements:
Upon receiving a conditional job offer, every applicant undergoes a criminal background check, drug screening and psychological assessment.
Employees who hold this position are required to possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver's license. Employee must maintain liability insurance in at least the minimum amounts required by law.
Certified copies of transcripts of educational credentials and/or college credits will be required during hiring process.
All applicants are required to present evidence of a tuberculosis (TB) skin test. In the event of a positive test, the applicant will be required to provide additional documentation.
Every employee is subject to random testing for drug and alcohol or if there is a reasonable suspicion to believe that the employee is under the influence of a substance prohibited by this policy while in the course and scope of employment.
If public emergency is declared by county, staff could be assigned to other duties and/or facilities and/or under the supervision of another county department.
Must be 21 years old.
This position involves working with challenging youth where use of crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies may be necessary to ensure the safety of both youth and staff.

HCJPD is the largest juvenile probation department in Texas with approximately 1,100 employees and over 3,500 youth referred to the department annually. HCJPD programs and services operate under the direction of the Harris County Juvenile Board. The Administration building is located in Downtown Houston, Texas, with several field offices throughout the County and three secure residential facilities.
