As a part of the Employee Relations team, the Employee Relations Partner serves as a proactive change agent who will consult and advise team members and managers on employee relation matters. The ER Partner is responsible for investigating internal complaints and works to resolve concerns, sensitively and confidentially.
The Employee Relations Partner works with managers to build teams and retain staff, helping to promote a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment. The role provides advice and counsel in the application of HR processes, policies, and procedures in effort to support the mission and vision of VCU Health System.
Essential Job Functions
Provide advice and counsel to team members, HR professionals and managers on workplace issues regarding policy interpretation and application
Provide facilitation and dispute/conflict resolution advice to team members and management.
Research, interpret, and apply applicable labor and employment laws, regulations, and standards a the federal and state level in collaboration with the Legal department.
Oversees, coordinates, and assists in resolving a wide variety of human resource issues, including interpretation of human resource policies, procedures and practices related to progressive discipline, performance management activities, accommodation requests, work restrictions, leaves of absence, fitness-for-duty, and employee assistance during crisis situations.
Conducts formal investigations into allegations of team member misconduct, providing accurate reports and documentation through case management system.
Collaborates with team members of all levels as well as HR stakeholders while obtaining facts surrounding reported concerns and deriving appropriate recommendations and determinations in alignment with organizational policies and practices.
Support Learning and Development team providing recommendation to programs based on enhancing team member experience.
Help drive team member engagement and team member retention activities.
Research new and changing laws and regulations to ensure organizational compliance.
Assists in the development or revision of organizational policy.
Ensures responsibility and visible commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion programs/initiatives through collaboration and implementation of initiatives across the health system.
Perform other duties as assigned and/or participates in special projects in order to support the mission of VCUHS and the Department.

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business or related field or equivalent professional experience

Minimum Qualifications
Years and Type of Required Experience
Five (5) years of general Human Resources experience with increasing responsibility to include a minimum of two (2) years' related experience in Employee Relations and familiarity with interpreting and applying essential employment statutes such as Title VII, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, USERRA and other key employment laws.
Ability to execute independent judgement while deriving and recommending solutions
Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policy and federal/state/local employment law
The ability to work effectively and autonomously with all levels within the organization, and maintain flexibility and adaptability is essential.
Reasoning ability to include strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
Work independently with minimal guidance while also being a collaborative team player
Experience facilitating disputes between team members and conducting workplace investigations.
Results-oriented with the ability to manage multiple complex, time-sensitive projects with multiple stakeholders
Keen attention to detail and strong analytical capability
Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, time management, facilitation and communication and influencing skills are a must.
Working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.
