Description
Under general supervision, provide support within the Broad Course of Study program (Music, Art, STEM and PE); work directly with students to implement instructional strategies and programs that are intended to increase student learning; perform a variety of supportive tasks and follow-up activities: and do other related work as required.
Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with the implementation, preparation and presentation of instructional material for students and instructional exercises for students
Assist in the conduct of lessons and classroom activities
Lead group discussions using appropriate questioning techniques; prepare for and assist with various classroom projects
Assist individuals or small groups of students with academic and social skills and the achievement of goals
Reinforce instruction in a variety of subjects; utilize creative methods and techniques for working with students within the suggested framework of the instructional personnel
Review plans with the instructional personnel to support quality instruction
Observe and manage behavior of students according to approved procedures; assist in maintaining order among the students in the classroom and on school grounds
Perform a variety of clerical duties, including recording information, compiling and maintain records and files, preparing reports, operating technology and assembling packets and materials for students
Establish rapport with students; help build confidence, self-esteem and responsible behavior in students through one to one and or/small group interaction
Requisition, store, distribute and maintain an inventory of educational materials, supplies and equipment
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Child development and behavior characteristics
Behavior management strategies
Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, grammar
Arithmetical concepts
Understand and carry out oral and written directions to provide lessons and activities appropriate to student needs
Learn methods and procedures to be followed in an instructional setting
Routine record storage, retrieval and management procedures
Effective oral and written communication skills
Instructional strategies utilized with students
Ability to:
Demonstrate an empathetic, patient and receptive attitude with students
Interpret, understand and follow specific student educational plans and course of study
Communicate satisfactorily in oral and written form in English as required by the assignment
Perform clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational, office-related machines, equipment and technology
Learn to utilize a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures in the enhancement of an educational environment
Understand and carry out oral and written directions
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults
Speak, read and write English
Use new equipment and technology as it becomes required to perform this job
Work successfully in a diverse environment
Experience:
One year of paid or volunteer experience working with students experiencing language deficiencies and remedial instruction needs
Desirable:
Bilingual in Spanish/English
Education:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requirement: AA degree, 48 college semester units or passing of the District’s Instructional Assistant Test
Training or coursework in child growth and development, special education, instructional technology, or a closely related field desirable
Personal Qualities:
Patience, helpfulness, diligence, persistence and a willingness to work with staff, students and parents from widely different cultural and linguistic backgrounds
