The primary purpose of the Cadet position is to attend and satisfactorily complete the University of Texas System Police Academy, qualifying for commissioning as a peace officer of The University of Texas System. Responsible for successfully fulfilling the academic, physical, and practical requirements of the Basic Training School of The University of Texas System Police Academy.
KEY FUNCTIONS
Training - Participates in and satisfactorily completes the physical training program, firearms training, defensive tactics program, practical problem solving and academic blocks of instruction. Attends class and maintain comprehensive notebooks of subjects covered in class. Prepares research papers. Completes homework assignments. Complies with assignments, policies, procedures, directives and instructions given by the Director of Police or the Police Academy staff.
Conduct - Complies with policies of respective component institutions relating to his or her status and attendance at the Academy. Adheres to The University of Texas System Police Code of Conduct and to the Rules and Regulations promulgated by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System.
Regulations - Adheres to rules and regulations promulgated by the Board of Regents, University of Texas System, and applicable state law. Ensures that academic integrity, both individually/personally and as a member of a class, is continuously maintained.
Other Duties as Assigned - Other duties to include, but not limited to, emergency recall and/or may be required to remain onsite or work extended hours during man-made or natural disasters and unusual occurrences on campus. Local or long distance travel may be required for training or other business purposes occasionally.

Must be a U.S. Citizen per the Texas Administrative Code - 37 T.A.C. 217.1 (B)(17). Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by the Police Department.
