SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.
TEST SOFTWARE ENGINEER (STARSHIP ELECTRONICS)
SpaceX's Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy rocket (collectively referred to as Starship) represent a fully reusable transportation system designed to carry both crew and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars and beyond. Starship will be the world's most powerful launch vehicle ever developed, with the ability to carry in excess of 100 metric tons to Earth orbit.
As a Test Software Engineer on the Starship Electronics team, you will write software and build systems that are used to test avionics assemblies for Starship. You will engage with other SpaceX software, hardware, and production engineers to quickly and reliably validate that avionics assemblies are correctly manufactured and can perform both on Earth, the Moon, deep space, and Mars. Hardware tested by the team includes but is not limited to: flight computers, power conversion units, analog and digital circuit boards, FPGAs, and communication system units. You will be a key enabler in the challenge of maintaining test coverage while decreasing cycle time and increasing build rate required to make spaceflight economically accessible for all.
Aerospace experience is not required to be successful here - rather we look for smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who love solving problems and want to make an impact on a super inspiring mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop test solutions for in-house developed avionics hardware products which will fly to space
- Write automation software in Python, C#, Javascript to interact with units under test, test equipment, instrumentation, and production documentation systems
- Work closely with and consistently provide feedback to responsible design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and test lab teams to drive design or infrastructure improvements to increase product reliability and yield
- Root-cause test failures to ensure issues are understood and develop and implement mitigations as part of a process of continuous improvement
- Build test solutions which enable rapid production at a low unit cost without sacrificing test coverage
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science or physics
- 1+ years of experience with hardware development or electronics test engineering via professional experience, internships, research and/or outside the classroom projects
- 1+ years of programming experience
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with test equipment and measurement techniques to verify and validate product requirements
- Understanding of electrical schematics and electronics manufacturing to analyze and improve test coverage
- Understanding of metrology, sources of measurement error, and uncertainty analysis
- Experience developing object oriented software
- Experience analyzing circuits and developing functional test plans
- Understanding and experience in environmental testing such as vibration, shock, thermal, burn-in, and TVAC
- Experience working in an industrial environment
- Experience with high-rate manufacturing
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willing to work long hours and weekends as needed
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range:
Test Software Engineer/Level I: $120,000.00 - $145,000.00/per year
Test Software Engineer/Level II: $140,000.00 - $170,000.00/per year
