Overview:
Responsible for in-depth monitoring, evaluation, and risk identification on the Bank’s Commercial Loan portfolio, including high complexity data analysis and interpretation, preparation of trend analysis, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), exposures and various other forward-looking risk identification reports. Develop advanced analytical tools (such as Power BI, Tableau, SQL, and Python) to identify emerging risks. Interpret results and present findings to make or influence strategic decisions within the department or division. Leverage risk experience, credit knowledge and understanding of link between bank performance and macroeconomic environment to plan initiatives to accomplish enterprise-wide goals around the Commercial Portfolios.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Cultivate a “change agent” mindset among team members regarding data management and reporting practices.
- Partner with various areas within the bank to actively engage in discussions on current portfolio tracking and business observations and devise strategies to monitor and address potential portfolio risks.
- Monitor performance of loan portfolio credit quality; communicate issues to management; quantify business ramifications; investigate any incident that may result in losses and compile findings for management review.
- Conduct portfolio segmentation analysis using origination, financial, demographic, behavioral, market and economic data as appropriate.
- Manage the day-to-day process around the enterprise reporting of Credit metrics including timeliness of reporting, enhancements, etc.
- Responsible on an individual basis for complex, critical, and highly visible projects for the credit division.
- Design and implement complex and highly specialized spreadsheets to support business decisions, making recommendations to management based on research and financial analysis.
- Develop a thorough and expert understanding of Credit and its functions, processes, and operations. Keep abreast of business and market trends which may affect business department.
- Direct and assist with special projects as assigned and perform additional responsibilities as required.
- Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain, and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
- Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

Scope of Responsibilities:
The position requires substantial interaction with both internal and external contacts to the Credit Division to obtain pertinent information.
The position acts as a liaison between credit and other business units on various projects.
The incumbent works independently under very limited supervision as well as a member or a project leader of a project team.
Will interface with high priority internal and external customers such as external Audit, internal Audit, Bank Examiners, Rating Agencies, etc.
Work product highly visible by various Committees such as the Board of Directors, Risk Committee, etc.
Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities:
Serve as resource for junior employees.
This is an individual contributor position.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field (i.e., Business, Finance, Statistics, Economics, Financial Engineering, Marketing, MIS) and minimum of 5 years prior experience in commercial credit, lending, finance, accounting and/or audit including 2 years leadership/coaching/supervisory experience,
OR in lieu of degree,
A combined minimum of 9 years higher education and/or work experience to include a minimum of 5 years prior experience in commercial credit, lending, finance, accounting and/or audit including 2 years leadership/coaching/supervisory experience.
Strong interpersonal skills necessary to cultivate business partner relationships with both internal and external contacts to the Credit Division in order to obtain pertinent information.
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft software including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, etc.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize to complete work within established timeframes.
Ability to manage the workflow of the team to complete work within the established timeframes.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong leadership, analytical ability and creative problem-solving skills.
Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel.
Excellent project management skills.
Education and Experience Preferred:
MBA preferred.
Power BI or Tableau User preferred.
SAS, SQL or Python programing experiences preferred.
M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $122,746.73 - $204,577.88 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
