Responsibilities
Assist and communicate results with the Federal Task Leader and the staff scientists as well as other collaborators.
Provide critical care and intervention of an anesthetized patient, knowing when there is a health issue and how to correct it.
Perform blood draws, catheter placement, intubation, injections, BALs, necropsies and other technical needs in NHPs and rabbits and mice.
Process blood and tissues according to specific needs of multiple experiments.
Plan and execute necropsies as well as train other staff to conduct necropsies.
Respond to emergency situations with animal patients within the prescribed time period or schedule others to do so.
Distribute samples (including shipping) from necropsies and other procedures to labs doing the analysis, track samples and return of generated data.
Maintain accurate animal records and documentation associated with technical procedures of the animals.
Manipulate infectious and radioactive NHPs and rabbits in a safe and proficient manner.
Clearly communicate any changes in animals’ health status to facility veterinarian and appropriate team members.
Use centrifuge, CBC machine, Chemistry machine, i-STAT, glucometer, and other equipment to collect data and organize the results for manuscript preparation.
Provide feedback on methods and technical procedures to improve upon, where applicable
Collect and organize data, perform data analysis and interpretation, and prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, and inventories.
Work quickly and efficiently to generate high quality, reproducible data.
Interpret and evaluate the results of experiments.
Qualifications
BS degree in scientific related field.
Minimum of two (2) or more years of working experience in a lab setting.
Demonstrates knowledge of maintaining accurate and detailed records.
Demonstrates knowledge of proper laboratory disposal methods and safety procedures.
Proficient computer skills with spreadsheets and other software to record data.
Effective and clear communication skills and the ability to work in a high stress environment.
In-person work in the BSL-3 laboratory and in ABSL-3 laboratory with NHPs, rabbits, and mice, required.
Ability to work in a team under oversight in ABSL-3 laboratory environments following SOPs.
Must be able to pass extensive background check and Public Trust 5 clearance.
Willing to work flexible hours, weekend work possible.
