The University of Virginia's Student Health and Wellness Center seeks qualified applicants for the role of Medical Fitness Support Staff at The Fried Center for the Advancement of Potential (FCAP) which serves UVA students within the Student Health and Wellness building.
This role is geared towards gap-year students who are on a pre-health / pre-physical therapy track seeking hands-on experience to support their professional aspirations. They will work under the supervision of licensed Physical Therapists to gain experience in an outpatient facility serving UVA student clients. In addition, they will prepare clients to see provider(s), assist in designing and implementing exercise programs, and other duties as assigned. The Medical Fitness Support Staff will work with diverse populations and ability levels.
Education: Must have a bachelor’s degree in related field of study (kinesiology, exercise physiology, pre-health, etc.). Must have completed KINE 3617- Service Learning in Medical Fitness during their UVA undergraduate career or have completed / plan to complete an equivalent course that covers the basics of exercise program design as well as the scientific theories that underlie the clinical approach to functional fitness.
Schedule: The position requires a time commitment of at least two (three or more preferred) shifts per week. Shifts occur in 4-hour blocks (8am-12pm or 1pm-5pm, Monday through Friday). Must be able to work in this position for 6 months.
Expectations: Must be responsible, dependable, and mature. Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times.
Physical demands: Able to move loads up to 45 lbs. Able to stand for prolonged periods (up to 4 hours with sitting breaks).
