JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: DISTRICT PSYCHOLOGIST (DESIGNATED INSTRUCTIONAL
SERVICES: COUNSELING)
DEFINITION: A certificated person who provides psychological counseling services as requested. These services primarily include counseling emotionally disturbed students with emotional and behavioral disabilities including case study evaluation, recommendations or other pertinent psycho educational interventions, and periodic reevaluation of such students.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
· Provides psychological counseling and other techniques with children and parents, as a DIS service.
· Provide ongoing counseling to students and crisis intervention assistance to emotionally disturbed students.
· Develops behavior plans and functional analyses for emotionally disturbed students.
· Provides a written report of evaluations, including recommendation for change of placement in any particular program, and also specific suggestions to the school personnel working directly with the student.
· Attends the IEP meetings for emotionally disturbed special education students.
· Explains the results of DIS counseling and the goals and objectives of the special program to the parents at IEP meetings and case conferences.
· Help regular education teachers of emotionally disturbed students in providing suitable learning experiences and in the selection of proper instructional materials for achieving goals and objectives.
· Consults with teachers in the development and implementation of classroom methods and procedures designed to facilitate pupil learning and to overcome emotional and behavioral disorders.
· Help facilitate the direction for integration of qualified students into the mainstream of the regular education program.
· Works closely with school counselors, speech therapists, school nurses/health technicians, and school psychologist to determine cooperatively plans for providing help to the students.
· Occasionally re-evaluate students already in special education programs as is required by IDEA and/or requested by the IEP team.
· Refers and consults with various community agencies. May serve as a liaison between the school, the family, and community resources.
· Participates in education research programs related to school psychologist services.
· Attends conferences, workshops and meetings related to special education at district and county level.
· Participates in preschool workshops and in-service programs in the district.
· Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent or Director of Student Services.
Qualifications: Minimum of Masters Degree in counseling and/or related field; School Psychologist Credential or Standard Designated Psychologist Credential.

Candidates are being sought with a current Pupil Personnel Services Credential with an authorization in School Psychology.
Salary determined by years of experience and postgraduate units. Credit given for 15 years experience. Any years beyond 15 are credited on a 2:1 ratio.
