Job Summary: The Insulation & Coating (I&C) Supervisor oversees the painting, coating and asbestos related work for construction and maintenance projects in all organizations across PG&E’s service territory: Electric Transmission & Distribution, Gas Transmission & Distribution, Power Generation, Nuclear, Hydro, Steam and Corporate Real Estate. I & C teams provide all types of coating application ranging from what is needed in buildings and offices to specialty coating applications for assets like transformers, circuit breakers, high voltage insulator coating, hydro flume repair and sealing, as well as nuclear qualified coating. Incumbents may be state certified for all types of asbestos work, and handle lead coating abatement and encapsulation.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.?
A reasonable salary range is:
- Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $118,000.00
- Minimum Base Salary (California) $112,000.00
- Mid Base Salary (California) $145,000.00
- Maximum Base Salary (California) $179,000.00
- Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $153,000.00
- Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $188,000.00
Responsibilities:
- Ensures insulation, coating, asbestos and/or lead abatement projects are completed on time and within budget and to quality expectations, while monitoring compliance to standards and specifications.
- Works with project managers and construction supervisors to project when major assets are about to be energized in order to anticipate work load and scheduling of coating jobs. Coordinates all the installation and coatings work in assigned area of service territory.
- Maintains projected schedules and updates weekly. Keeps and maintains crews’ vacation schedules.
- Completes and maintains all work documentation or reporting. Effectively utilizes resources by monitoring crew productivity.
- May interface with schedulers on predesigned schedules from nuclear/hydro generation facilities as well as coordinate special safety requirements for crews working there including behavioral observation and random drug testing.
- Interfaces with Subformen and crews by coordinating tailboards, conference calls, and quarterly meetings.
- Assists with writing PG&E paint specifications for assigned lines of business.
- Efficiently and accurately performs monitoring and analysis functions for ongoing projects and work efforts. Reviews current work practices for operational efficiencies and deficiencies.
- Oversees industrial coating research on new coatings including reaching out to manufactures for information.
- Oversees special projects supporting the apprenticeship program including putting training modules together, writing curriculum, and writing exams.
- Manages special design projects with Engineering and Safety to create technical solutions to access and procedural challenges with coating applications in atypical environments.
- Effectively manages staff/team(s) through setting and aligning performance goals and expectations; providing performance feedback and follow through on the performance management process. Consults with underperforming employees, performing skill coaching, safety expectations, and technical field knowledge.
Qualifications
Minimum
- High School Diploma or GED
- 5 years of experience in an electric utility
Desired
- Advanced knowledge of the industrial painting industry.
- Knowledge of current work procedures that are applicable to insulation and coating.
- Knowledge of State and Federal Asbestos and Lead regulation requirements.
- Knowledge of rigging for access, containment and scaffolding practices.
- Strong project and people management skills.
- General computer skills in Word and Excel along with daily routine experience of e-mail communications.
- Customer services orientation, including communication skills, initiative and problem solving.
- Ability to understand, interpret and communicate work procedures, work methods, standards, policies, and guidelines.
