Position
This is a Temporary Part-Time position anticipated to work 20 hours per week, Friday - Monday
Community Improvement Maintenance Worker I (V17): $26.45 - $32.15 per hour.
Community Improvement Maintenance Worker II (V19): $27.77 - $33.75 per hour.
Under general supervision, to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work related to improving community aesthetics. The Community Improvement Maintenance Worker I/II may perform other work as required.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
The Community Improvement Maintenance Worker identifies varying levels of blight situations, may take action to resolve the situation and/or notifies the appropriate City programs of their existence. They are expected to resolve most problems confronted through the application of professional judgment and precedent. As assigned, incumbents are expected to perform tasks in other maintenance areas at an unskilled or semi-skilled level, as a helper or independently. Positions in this class perform work which has some variation, and which allows or requires a limited range of choice in the application of defined methods or procedures. Incumbents receive instructions when tasks are assigned and have some latitude in selecting work methods. Work is generally reviewed upon completion for final results. Incumbents are expected to refer matters which do not fit a clear pattern to the supervisor for instruction. The Community Improvement Maintenance Worker should have knowledge of other City departments and programs in order to refer more complicated matters to the proper individuals for handling.
Examples of Essential Functions
Identifies illegal dumping of debris, trash and litter on public property and in the public right-of-way.
Removes dumped items from public property as necessary.
Loads, transports and unloads dumped items, trash and litter, supplies and equipment as required.
Abates weeds and debris.
Identifies graffiti on public and private property and notifies other Departments for its remediation.
May abate graffiti at public property locations.
Operates paint sprayer, rollers, and power washer.
Works with graffiti removal chemicals.
Maintain communication with fellow workers regarding information for the acquisition of paints and supplies.
Identifies illegal encampments on public property.
Notifies contract social service staff of new encampments.
May post notices regarding encampment clean outs in compliance with state law.
May supervise temporary staff or contractors involved in debris and trash removal.
Operates a City vehicle.
Interfaces with other City programs, divisions, departments, and the community regarding multiple blight and community improvement initiatives.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates an ability to perform the duties of the position is qualifying.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Community Improvement Maintenance Worker I:
A typical qualifying entrance background would be a high school diploma and one year of experience in customer service, code enforcement or related duties. Maintenance work experience is desirable.
Community Improvement Maintenance Worker II:
A typical qualifying entrance background would be experience at or equivalent to the level of Community Improvement Maintenance Worker I in the City of Vista, wherein the incumbent has acquired the knowledge and abilities listed below.
License Required Possession of a valid California Drivers’ License with a satisfactory driving record is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Strength:
Heavy work – Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling up to 75 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
Able to move about and ascend/descend (e.g. stairs, ladders, trees, inclines)
Incumbent is required to work outside in the elements
Requires the use of City vehicle.
Requires extensive foot patrol over a variety of terrains.
Willingness to comply with rules and regulations governing wearing attire.
