Job Abstract

The anticipated duration of this assignment is anticipated to be approximately 4 months.

The Department of Cell and Tissue Biology seeks applicants for a part-time position as the Anatomy Laboratory Assistant to support the teaching activities, daily function, and long-term care of the Dental Anatomy Laboratory located at the UCSF Parnassus campus. Responsibilities include: maintain the anatomy facilities and equipment; work closely with the Course Director and the UCSF Willed Body Program to procure embalmed specimens, receive delivery, and coordinate cremation; consult with the teaching faculty to prepare the laboratory for student learning by setting up for each laboratory (open the lab, ensure proper tools are available for specific laboratories, set out necessary models, etc.) and cleaning up after each laboratory (return cleaned tools to proper storage locations, consolidate biohazard waste, and manage pick up); order laboratory supplies; mix chemicals to maintain specimen viability; properly dispose of biohazardous fluid waste, manage waste fluid labels, and coordinate waste fluid pick up; ensure proper storage and accurate labeling of specimens; maintain current prosection (previously dissected cadaver) inventory; ensure laboratory compliance with EH&S standards for BSL-2 level certification; assist faculty with tasks for efficient anatomy practical exam set-up; maintain accurate cadaver records; and act as a responsible steward over an irreplaceable collection of embalmed cadavers, prosections, and human skeletons.
