The candidate selected for this position will be responsible to directly supervise a small team of employees. The successful incumbent will be a team player with a positive attitude who possesses excellent interpersonal skills, customer service skills, and a solution-focused approach to managing multiple priorities.
Definition Under direction, the incumbent supervises and performs skilled parks and grounds maintenance duties related to the upkeep and operation of county parks and grounds facilities and performs other related duties as required.

The following duties are typical of those performed by the incumbents in this classification; however, other duties may also be required.
Supervises personnel in the operation, maintenance, and development of county parks, boat launches, and other county operated recreational areas;
Plans, assigns, and evaluates the work of Parks maintenance staff;
Assists in planning parks and grounds maintenance activities including estimates of materials and labor costs;
Reviews operating techniques, safety requirements, and procedures and assists with development and implementation of Park policies, and long range goals;
Maintains records and prepares reports on facilities use and condition, personnel and equipment necessary to install, maintain, and/or repair park and grounds maintenance equipment;
Oversees skilled parks and grounds maintenance work such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, welding, landscaping, and other related park maintenance duties;
Evaluates, prepares, and applies a variety of general purpose chemicals.
For regional parks usage:
Responds to and resolves citizen complaints and problems related to park usage;
Monitors day use and camping fee collections;
Oversees and monitors Park citation program;
Handles after hour and weekend Park emergency calls.
The position may also require the performance of different essential or marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment, or shift.
Employment Standards
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a valid G.E.D. and preferably supplemented by courses in parks and grounds maintenance, horticulture and landscaping.
Experience:Four years of increasingly responsible experience in parks and grounds maintenance, park development or landscape design. Additional education in parks maintenance, horticulture, landscaping or similar field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years.
Knowledge of:methods and practices involved in the planning, development, maintenance and operation of parks and grounds areas and facilities; design and installation of irrigation systems and horticulture methods; carpentry, plumbing, electrical, landscape construction work and maintenance of mechanical equipment used in parks and grounds maintenance; occupational hazards, safety rules and regulations associated with parks and grounds maintenance; principles and practices of effective supervision; departmental budget procedures, recordkeeping and purchasing practices; shop operations and equipment repairs. Ability to:plan, assign, review, and evaluate the work of subordinate personnel; perform skilled parks and landscape maintenance work; interpret and work from blueprints and technical plans; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays as required.
Licenses: Positions in this classification require incumbents to possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, Class C or higher, to carry out job related duties. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical or mental disability may request a reasonable accommodation.
