DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As part of this role, you will be responsible for assisting in the planning, construction, and maintenance of natural-surface recreation trails and other related recreational infrastructure in the Michaux Forest District and potentially in other regions when necessary for high-priority projects or training purposes within the Bureau of Forestry. Your duties will involve operating a range of equipment used for the construction, repair, and maintenance of backcountry trails and associated infrastructure, with a focus on vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 26,001 pounds or more. This includes truck and trailer combinations where the GVW of the trailer is 10,000 lbs. or more. Additionally, you will regularly perform maintenance tasks on heavy equipment, power tools, and hand tools.
In addition to operating equipment, you will also be expected to assist with manual labor when not operating assigned equipment. This may involve tasks such as physical labor, acting as a lead worker for support labor when assigned, and providing assistance with habitat management, road maintenance, demolition projects, prescribed fire activities, and fire suppression efforts as needed. The specific tasks assigned will depend on the fiscal year and seasonal priorities. This position requires a strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality in all aspects of trail construction and maintenance.

Full-time employment
Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A;or
Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more:or
Any equivalent combination of experience or training.
Special Requirement:
Possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.
Conditions of Employment:
This position requires that employees in this class have a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
