CLASS TITLE: ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of clerical accounting duties in support of assigned accounts and functions; process, monitor and record related transactions; prepare and maintain accurate financial and statistical records and reports.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Perform a variety of clerical accounting duties in support of assigned accounts and functions such as accounts payable and accounts receivable; process and assure accuracy and completeness of various financial forms and documents.
Calculate, assemble, match, sort, tabulate, code, review and post a variety of financial and statistical data including income and expenditures; review, adjust and verify journal entries; balance, verify and adjust accounts; review data for accuracy and completeness; make corrections as needed.
Research, compile, prepare and revise accounting data; prepare and maintain a variety of auditable financial and statistical records and reports related to accounts, funds, balances, transactions, income, expenditures and assigned activities; establish and maintain filing systems.
Input and update a variety of accounting data in an assigned computer system; maintain automated financial records and files; initiate queries, develop spreadsheets and generate a variety of computerized lists and reports; verify accuracy of input and output data.
Receive, prepare, process, sort, code and file purchase orders and invoices as assigned; prepare invoices and bills for payment; verify accuracy of invoices and match with purchase orders and other appropriate documents; assure proper coding and fund availability; issue and distribute payments.
Process accounts receivable as assigned; receive, process and verify incoming monies; issue receipts; check money totals against receipts and invoices to assure accuracy; prepare, calculate, balance and reconcile deposits and related paperwork; collect, process and account for various fees.
Prepare, process and verify a variety of financial transactions such as requisitions, reimbursements, revolving cash payments, voluntary deductions, conference requests, warrants and tax payments; calculate and assure accuracy of outgoing payments; follow up on payments as needed.
Serve as an informational resource to staff and various outside agencies concerning accounting and other assigned functions and activities; respond to inquiries and provide information concerning related accounts, transactions, practices, policies and procedures.
Perform various clerical support duties as assigned; initiate, screen and route telephone calls, greet and assist visitors; compose, distribute and respond to a variety of correspondence; duplicate and distribute materials; obtain signatures for accounting transactions as needed.
Prepare and process payroll to assure employees are paid in an accurate and timely manner as required; process, input and assure accuracy of time sheets.
Communicate with District personnel and various outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns; maintain contact with vendors to resolve discrepancies related to invoices and payments as assigned.
Operate a variety of office equipment including a calculator, copier, fax machine, typewriter, computer and assigned software.
Compare and reconcile various financial statements, journals, ledgers, records, reports and documents to assure accurate fund accounting; identify, research and investigate errors and discrepancies.
Compile, prepare and submit State-mandated student attendance reports as assigned.
Assist with year-end closing activities as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years clerical accounting experience.
