Responsibilities
This position is responsible for assessing completed quality control documentation, donor records, and documents generated during the donor procedure during collections operations. The role is critical to maintaining data integrity in the BECS, and it is expected that independent decisions will be made using available tools and resources to resolve complex problems.
Reviews donor medical screening and analyzes against standards and procedures to confirm donor eligibility.
Reviews and reconciles donor records and records generated during the donor procedure to support traceability in blood donations and to release units. The review may result in the discard of the product. Generates deviations in the Quality Management System as appropriate.
Provide the Medical Director with information to resolve complex donor eligibility issues. Ensures the donor is notified of the outcome and notifies Collections management when changes are required and/or when medical eligibility issues are resolved.
Manages follow-up related to donor adverse events while attempting to donate blood. Provides timely notification to management and Medical Director of events as needed. Coordinates activities associated with Specialty Collections Autologous, Directed, and Therapeutic.
Perform QC activities and monitor maintenance of equipment, ensuring accurate recordkeeping and compliance with all regulations and standards.
Identifies errors and corrects information regarding deferrals. This may include communication with department leadership or Information Technology.
Perform daily review of BECS records to ensure data integrity of entered data. Act to resolve ambiguous entries and consult with QRA, IT, and ECCOE leadership when necessary.
Audits apheresis collections and ancillary documents to ensure product conformance and that extended testing is processed per SOP.
Performs Lot Release based on full review of all quality control and donor records.
Identifies possible duplicate donors and performs investigation to resolve. This may involve the use of tools such as PeopleFinder or Accurint. Initiates deviation when discrepancies that have product consequences, current or past, are identified.
Assist with maintaining, reviewing, and following up on the Quality Program for the Collections Department. Collaborate with management on quality indicators, error management statistics, audits, and CAPA investigations.
Coordinate document control activities for fixed and mobile operations. Facilitate implementation of procedures to ensure timely switch out of SOPs, forms, job aids, training materials, and applicable resources.
Can serve as a resource to Collections staff regarding donor eligibility during processing.
Provide mentorship to staff who are transitioning from collections staff.
Donor Scheduling – Special Donations (as applicable)
Donation types can be Hemochromatosis, Autologous, Directed, Research, and Therapeutic.
Schedules special donations appointments with donors
Receives and documents orders for special donations from physicians or designees.
Inputs all necessary information about donations into the computer system.
Review special donation files to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Coordinates physicals with Medical, as needed.
Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory requirements for special donations.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma
Related Experience:
Three years of experience in completing and reviewing business documentation and procedure review. Quality Control documentation is preferred but not required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Degree in business or healthcare administration or closely related field.
Experience: Quality Control documentation
Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the requirements above that has supplied the necessary knowledge, skills, and expertise to perform the job's essential functions.
For applicants who will perform this position in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed hiring rate is $27.00 p/hr. . For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York City or Westchester County, salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicant’s skills, job-related knowledge, and experience.
