As a member of UCSF Health’s Strategy and Business Development team, the Director of Strategic Development plays a key role in UCSF Health’s growth and affiliation strategy in cancer services. The Director will assist department physician and administrative leadership in the development of service line and geographic strategies (from concept to implementation) and project management of key activities as required to develop and implement strategies that drive growth and revenue. Project management and strategic analytical support will occur across the continuum and will include acute, non-hospital, and post-acute service providers as well as a wide variety of physician groups.
The candidate will report directly to the Vice President of Strategy and Business Development. This position will also support the Chief Strategy Officer in his duties supporting strategy, affiliates, and organizational growth. Activities will include projects to analyze new market opportunities, develop outreach strategies, and provider arrangements. This position will also work with marketing to develop physician and consumer marketing plans as well as support regular reviews of financial and strategic metrics with operations leadership groups.

Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or a closely related field or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
Experience in a wide range of academic medical centers and teaching institutions nationally.
Experience managing strategic initiatives across multiple missions and in concert with institutional partners.
Familiarity with UCSF (institution, individuals, culture), the Bay Area region and California’s healthcare environment.
Bachelor's degree in a related area or four (4) years of relevant experience.
Eight (8) years or more of relevant healthcare experience handling: Provider Segments; Strategic and Business Planning; Market Assessment and Basic Finance/Budget Principles.
Expert knowledge of the principles, concepts, and strategies involved in successful strategic growth and business development.
Expert critical-thinking and analytical, skills to assess complex issues, and sensitive situations and develop solutions.
Highly developed knowledge in healthcare planning, business development, and joint venture design.
Expert interpersonal skills to interact and negotiate professionally with highly influential entities.
Adept at establishing and cultivating business relationships.
Highly advanced written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate with impact.
Expert ability to develop comprehensive reports and presentations.
