DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As an Energy Assistance Worker, you will be processing initial benefit applications, as well as crisis applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This opportunity offers a full-time, seasonal position that typically runs for 6 to 8 months during the fall and winter seasons to assist clients in the process of applying for heating assistance. Extensive training will be provided to equip you with the skills needed to perform duties such as interviewing clients, acting as a liaison with heating vendors, and reviewing and completing applications received in order to recommend approval or disapproval of benefits consistent with federal and state regulations. The majority of the job is completion of work through data entry. Work assignments are limited in scope and performed under close supervision of an Income Maintenance Casework Supervisor who reviews work for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to the program regulations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Seasonal full-time employment
Seasonal employment runs from approximately October to April but employment may begin as early as September and last until June.
Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. May change based on operational needs.
Travel and overtime as needed
Work conditions: Assigned duties are performed in a controlled office environment. In counties with district offices, employees may be reassigned to different work sites due to operational needs. Reassignments will be made in compliance with contract language.
This position is not eligible for telework.
Hourly rate: The starting hourly rate is non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Two years of experience in general office work which included interviewing the public;or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Dauphin County. If no eligible candidates who live within Dauphin County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.

You must pass a background investigation.
This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
