Salary Range: $84,442.00 - $145,164.00 Annually

The Baltimore City Health Department (BCHD) seeks an Infection Control Practitioner (ICP).

Founded in 1793, BCHD is the oldest health department in the country, with over 800 employees and an annual budget of $208 million, that aims to protect health, eliminate disparities, and ensure the well-being of every resident of Baltimore through education, advocacy, and direct service delivery. BCHD's wide-ranging responsibilities include maternal and child health, youth wellness, school health, senior services, animal control, restaurant inspections, violence prevention, emergency preparedness, STI/HIV treatment, and acute and chronic disease prevention.

Position Summary:

The Infection Control Practitioner follows established guidelines for the prevention and spread of contagious, infectious, or communicable disease to provide a clean/safe environment for our staff, residents, and patients. They also monitor employee health programs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Ensures that infection control policies and procedures are implemented, followed and updated when necessary.
• Conducts rounds throughout facilities to assure compliance with state and federal guidelines.
• To hold and chair quarterly Infection Control Meetings, and review information obtained from the infection prevention, surveillance, and control program to improve resident care and employee work practices.
• Carry out surveillance to monitor the facility rates of Nosocomial infection, risk factors, and, as needed, analysis that relate to infection prevention and control.
• To report all diseases that are required to be reported to appropriate Health Department officials.
• To give regular in-services on infection control.
• Ensure Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance.
• Train CPR and First Aid for all BCHD healthcare professionals.
• Ensure infection control database are maintained in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

• Have a bachelor’s degree in nursing, epidemiology, microbiology, or a related field.
• CPR Instructor Certification
• Knowledgeable in area of infection control
• Attendance at Infection Control seminars, preferably A.P.I.C.
