Job Overview:
Schedules operative procedures via electronic scheduling system, using knowledge of procedures, area of body involved, equipment conflicts, staffing, surgeon preferences, scheduling habits and suite utilization. Works independently at the information desk, contacting patient care areas, takes messages and communicates to appropriate person. Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors, etc.
Qualifications:
Required:
- School diploma.
- Six to twelve months’ prior experience in secretarial position
- Successful completion of all Orientation Programs.
Preferred:
- Medical background preferred.

- 8:00am- 4:00pm
- Monday-Friday
- Full Time
Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates initiative and receptiveness to staff requests.
- Use of Vocera during work hours and remains logged in during work hours
- Works well under pressure, maintaining calm and listens carefully to requests of physicians, charge nurse and staff
- Assist with training of new schedulers as assigned
- Has a basic knowledge of systems presently being used in the OR
- Has a clear understanding of assigned job and routine
- Keep telephone and beeper lists updated
- Keeps service leaders informed of equipment requests taken while scheduling cases
- Knows the basic work done by all secretaries, how long it will take and what resources are needed to complete the task in the event that there is a need to fill in
- Maintain a direct line of communication with the OR Clinical Director and System Analyst
- Operates SIS Scheduling system and enters Post Operative Data as needed
- Refers conflicts and procedural questions to Clinical Director, Assistant Nurse Manager or System Analyst
- Review updated schedule for following day with Clinical Director and Managers
- Transfer cancellations or changes of cases to Department.
