Description
The Office of the Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder and Chief Election's Officer is seeking a Graphics Specialist to perform skilled information design using a variety of desktop publishing systems. The work may also include some graphics design and layout. The position will work closely with departmental staff to define needs, evaluate alternatives, and develop the most effective educational and informational materials to represent the Office.
The ideal candidate is proficient with multiple desktop publishing/graphics programs such as InDesign, Illustrator, and PhotoShop and presentation software such as PowerPoint. Also, the ideal candidate will have success managing and meeting multiple deadlines and will have strong skills in proofreading materials for format, spelling, and grammar.
The current position is a full-time, temporary (extra-help) position. The graphics specialist hired for the position will be a key contributor to the 2024 Presidential General Election. It is anticipated the project will be ongoing for up to a year.
Extra-help positions are at-will assignments, paid on an hourly basis. Some extra-help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.
Qualifications
Knowledge of:
Graphic design concepts, materials, techniques, and equipment used in commercial art.
Federal accessibility standards for web design.
Operating principles and practices of multiple word processing/spreadsheet database programs such as WORD and EXCEL.
Operating principles and practices of multiple desktop publishing/graphics programs such as Adobe Creative Cloud.
Techniques for estimating time and processes required to meet the document needs of the client.
Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.
Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Proper format for business correspondence, reports, and informational materials.
Skill/Ability to:
Operate a variety of word processing, spreadsheet and desktop publishing hardware and software in a production setting.
Estimate the time and materials required to produce a desired finished product.
Design distinctive commemorative election pins.
Maintain department’s public facing website (www.smcacre.org) and the intranet site.
Organize and prioritize work and meet critical time deadlines.
Maintain accurate logs, records, and files of work performed.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with those contacted in the course of the work.
Sit for an extended period at a video display terminal and use a keyboard while maintaining attention to detail.
Perform related duties as assigned.
