The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) is currently recruiting to fill the limited-term position of DHH Interpreter for the Teacher Effectiveness and Preparation (TEP) Unit. The DHH Interpreter provides online interpreting in statewide teacher credentialing and professional growth programs.
This limited-term position may be asked to:
Provide expressive and receptive interpretation and transliteration in American Sign Language, manually coded signed English systems or oral interpreting for DHH instructors and candidates in support of educational programs and instructional activities.
Assist instructors and candidates by answering questions, providing proper examples, and general guidance; facilitate candidate participation and discussions to support them in active engagement
Confer with TEP faculty to identify and assist in meeting the needs of DHH instructors and candidates.
Collaborate with program instructors to ensure consistency and continuity in candidate support and expectations; provides suggestions regarding changes to enhance services for DHH candidates.
Be available for candidate consultation through office hours or scheduled appointments by phone, email, or virtual meetings.
Attend scheduled instructor meetings, professional development, and other assigned meetings as required.
Utilize and assist faculty with supplemental instructional materials, audio-visual aids and equipment, closed captioning equipment, FM systems, computers, and related software.
Serve as an informational resource to program staff regarding DHH instructors and candidates and related issues.
Advises program staff, instructors, and candidates concerning interpreter services.
This position requires experience working with or teaching students and/or adults in person, online or in a hybrid. In addition, some assignments may require experience, and/or training specific to the assigned instructional setting.
CREDENTIALS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must possess one (1) of the following certifications:
National certification by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
Achieved a score of 4.0 or above on one (1) of the following:
Educational Sign Skills Evaluation – Interpreter and Receptive (ESSE-I/R)
National Association of the Deaf/American Consortium of Certified Interpreters (NAD/ACCI) Assessment
Or other assessments as deemed acceptable by the California Department of Education.
