SUMMARY
The Continuous Improvement (CI) Coordinator is an hourly position that reports to the Continuous Improvement (CI) Leader. The CI Coordinator is critical in assisting with the coordination of R&A site continuous improvement initiatives focused on sustained improvement of site operations through waste elimination, lean manufacturing approaches and employee engagement.
The CI Coordinator leads projects, participates in the execution of training plans for employees and performs the role of trainer for plant personnel in the area of continuous improvement. The CI coordinator will assist in leading and facilitating temporary continuous improvement teams for the purpose of changing processes and procedures to:
- Establish short and long term safety, quality and productivity improvements
- Facilitate problem solving methods
- Eliminate waste
- Develop standard operating procedures, standard work, single point lessons, etc.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate leadership and the ability to lead teams to solve problems
- Assist in leading, training and facilitating teams through lean events including but not limited to: Kaizen events, 5S, Lean Daily Management, Waste Elimination, Managing for Daily Improvement, Six Sigma projects, Visual Factory, Flow Mapping and other similar improvement processes
- Assist with the development of event charters, solicit participation and coordinate logistics for successful events
- Plan, organize and coordinate several events and improvement activities at the same time
- Educate and coach team members how to effectively execute lean processes and techniques
- Work with and/or lead teams in Kaizen events
- Work with and/or temporarily lead TPM teams. Work with the Operations Leader and Asphalt Plant Leader to coordinate the effectiveness of the Medina site TPM teams
- Include safety and quality items in all continuous improvement activities and events
- Guide, train and motivate those within scope of influence to achieve positive outcomes for improvement activities
- Provide guidance and support for problem solving and problem resolution to facilitate faster improvements and improved working relationships
- Champion the effectiveness of the Medina site layered process audits, Critical to Quality (CTQ), and Perfect Process activities
- Revisit former event sites to ensure safety, quality and productivity gains are sustained
- Give regular feedback to employees and leadership on the progress of continuous improvement activities and events
- Able to perform and coordinate administrative tasks relative to any continuous improvement initiative
- Complete presentations and reports for initiatives. Document event outcomes
- Become a certified Lean Facilitator/Lean Practitioner and Six Sigma Green Belt
- Use observations, measurements and data to determine project opportunities and safety, quality and productivity improvements
- Analyze information and data and take appropriate action
- Engage appropriate personnel and resources to resolve equipment problems
- Participate in various training seminars and conferences as directed by the Continuous Improvement Department
- Participate in Safety VIP (Pink card, BBS/Hazard Hunt, TPM Team member)
- Perform other related duties consistent with the nature of the job, as instructed by CI Leader or Site Leader
- Learn and use basic Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook)
- Apply basic computer skills to utilize various computer software applications (AQ, Minitab, Aspentech and others as needed)
- This role requires approximately 6 months of training to reach desired performance levels

COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES
The employee must be able to:
- Operate a computer and other keyboard instruments
- Become proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Learn and become proficient in job-related software (i.e. SAP, POP Aspentech, Minitab)
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
The employee should have the following:
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent is required
- 2+ years related experience and/or training in an industrial environment (Roofing Manufacturing experience preferred)
- 2-year degree or higher is preferred
- Formal training in Lean/Six Sigma (i.e. Lean Practitioner or Green Belt) is preferred

- Ability to work varying shifts as required
