The City Manager's Office is seeking a skilled, responsive, and energetic program coordinator whose sole focus is to advance the City's sustainability efforts in a coordinated way. Pasadena has many sustainability oriented and environmental programs across several departments and divisions. This position will improve and strengthen communication and coordination of these various programs, and serve as staff for the City Council-appointed Environmental Advisory Commission.
The ideal candidate will be a passionate champion of and for the environmentally sustainable programs, operations, policies, and procedures. The ideal candidate will be the first in this position and must be able to develop and create this new, coordinated city-wide effort.
Essential Functions

Under the direct supervision from an Assistant City Manager, the Sustainability Coordinator will coordinate all City of Pasadena sustainability and environmental programs and efforts.
Coordinates an interdepartmental team to define and address sustainability and environmental issues and goals.
Establishes and works collaboratively with City Sustainability Team to develop a Pasadena Sustainability Plan which encompasses goals and objectives for Pasadena,
Provides visionary leadership and thoughtful cooperation to facilitate increases in environmental sustainability.
Develops and maintains a central repository of all City of Pasadena sustainable activities, programs, policies and initiatives; makes this repository available to the public through a website.
Develops and maintains a Sustainability Dashboard to monitor Pasadena's sustainability performance and programs.
Provides staff support for the City Council-appointed Environmental Advisory Commission (EAC).
Keeps abreast of existing federal, state and county legislation related to sustainability and ensure Pasadena's compliance.
Serves as liaison to the public, EAC, City departments, executive leadership, other governmental agencies, environmental advocacy groups, and other key stakeholders regarding Pasadena's sustainability issues and efforts.
Monitors, evaluates, and recommends changes to plans, policies and procedures to achieve compliance and meet goals.
Recommends and implements new programs and/or recommends modifications to existing programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and create goals to ensure Pasadena remains a leader in sustainability efforts and outcomes.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, liberal arts, public relations, social science, sociology, psychology or a closely related field.
Four years of progressively responsible administrative and project planning experience in administering or implementing sustainability oriented and environmental programs.
SELECTION PROCESS The selection process may consist of a training and experience evaluation, interview panel, and/or department-level interviews.

Candidates selected for this position are subject to a one-year probationary work period.
