The City of Pasadena's Jail Division in the Police Department is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to perform general maintenance and laboring duties. The Pasadena Police Department Jail mission is to:
Protect the public by providing secure housing, while preserving the welfare and dignity of persons in our custody
Protect the rights of inmates and staff
Provide a safe and clean environment for inmates and staff
Provide accurate information to the public
Handle stressful or volatile situations and/or persons with the degree of professionalism that in keeping with the “Pasadena Way” is firm and fair.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a good attitude, be dependable, and a team player. The Maintenance Assistant in the Police Department will work in the Jail and is primarily responsible for cleaning the City's jail facility and other areas of the Police Department using approved cleaning products and equipment.
Essential Functions

Ensures that the jail is adequately stocked with the necessary supplies to conduct business.
Performs weekly inspections of chemicals on stock, places order for supplies, and makes various pick up's for supplies.
Works in confined spaces.
Must have ability to handle cleaning hazardous materials including bodily fluids, and withstand working in foul odors.
Cleans the facility's laundry using approved chemicals and equipment.
Receives and properly stocks inmate meals

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
At least three months of related work experience.
Experience working with in a Correctional Facility, electronic and mechanical security facilities is desirable.
SELECTION PROCESS The selection process will consist of an evaluation of training and experience and the candidates deemed most highly qualified will be invited to participate in a written, oral, or performance examination.
VACANCY INFORMATION There is currently one vacancy in the Jail Strategic Services Division of the Police Department. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future. Candidates selected for this position are subject to a one year probationary work period.
Special Requirements
Must be able to work all days of the week including weekends and Holidays. Must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation which may include a review of employment history, criminal conviction record, credit history, use of intoxicants and/or other controlled substances. Must have or obtain a valid Class C California Driver License, as it is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
Incumbents may be rotated and reassigned to different work activities and work schedules on an as-needed basis.
