Job Abstract

The Rutgers Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research (IFH), a unit of Rutgers Health, is recruiting tenured/tenure-track faculty as part of the Addressing Health Equity in Age-related Disorders (AHEAD) strategic diversity cluster hire supported by the Rutgers Presidential Diversity Hiring Initiative.

The faculty hired under this recruitment will advance knowledge of other neurodegenerative disorders and their treatment and systems and supports to help people experience a higher quality of life and contribute to deepening understanding of the behavioral, social, racial, ethnic, and other systemic disparities associated with these disorders. Age-related conditions are of special interest (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy body disease, frontotemporal degeneration, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, vascular cognitive impairment/dementia, and multiple sclerosis) although investigators studying other conditions of the central nervous system are also encouraged to apply.

We seek to appoint two tenured or tenure-track faculty to serve as core members-in-residence within the IFH with joint appointment in suitable Rutgers Health tenure-granting unit (under some circumstances, appointment in an RU-New Brunswick unit may be possible). Candidates eligible for appointment at the level of Associate Professor or higher are preferred.

We are especially interested in candidates whose work addresses needs of underrepresented populations according to the NIH health disparities framework; targets risk factors for neurodegenerative diseases; addresses methodological/structural barriers to health care access and research participation; and translates research advances into the care of people living with neurodegenerative disorders. This recruitment is part of a larger AHEAD initiative that is recruiting faculty members across multiple Rutgers units including the Schools of Arts and Sciences, Engineering, and Social Work and Rutgers Health Brain Health Institute and Institute for Health. The Institute for Health plans to hire up to two AHEAD faculty members for the positions described in this announcement.

Located on the Rutgers campus in downtown New Brunswick, New Jersey, the Institute was founded in 1985 under the leadership of David Mechanic, PhD as a vibrant, multidisciplinary unit dedicated to scholarly collaboration and research that focuses on critical questions related to healthcare services and policy, population health, aging, and health and mental healthcare. The Institute is housed in a 57,000 square foot state-of-the-art, custom-built academic and research facility located in the heart of New Brunswick, an ethnically diverse and lively city with easy access to public transportation to New York City and Philadelphia. The IFH provides an advanced research support infrastructure to its members, including comprehensive pre- and post-award grant and contract business support, a Data Core providing access to comprehensive national Medicaid, Medicare, commercial insurance, and other rich data resources, and a research computing center with capacity to host and support analysis of large healthcare data sources, including HIPAA-protected health information. The IFH is home to seven research centers employing advanced population science methods critical to address health, health care services, and aging issues of importance to New Jersey, the nation, and world.

The IFH is a unit of Rutgers Health, comprising schools, centers, and institutes preparing the next generation of health professionals and supporting a broad spectrum of health-related investigation. RBHS includes two medical schools and schools of pharmacy, public health, nursing, and health professions. The Rutgers Health clinical enterprise includes the state’s largest behavioral health provider, an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, a large multi-specialty medical group, and a comprehensive range of other health care services. RBHS also partners with RWJBarnabas Health, the state’s largest healthcare delivery system. RBHS and RWJBarnabas share comprehensive electronic health records systems which are available to Rutgers faculty conducting population health research.
