Job Abstract

SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Senior Director of Surgical Strategy is responsible for establishing the vision and all aspects of Perioperative and Gastrointestinal (GI) services within Waterbury Health. This role is responsible for developing and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of surgical and gastrointestinal services, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and operational excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and implement strategic roadmaps and initiatives to optimize perioperative and GI services, including surgical scheduling, preoperative assessment, intraoperative care, and postoperative recovery.
• Provide leadership and direction to perioperative and GI staff, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols, patient safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing leadership, and other healthcare professionals to drive continuous improvement initiatives in surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction.
• Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to surgical services, analyzing data to identify areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Manage budgetary planning and financial performance of perioperative and GI services, optimizing resource utilization and cost-effectiveness.
• Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous learning within the surgical services department.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and innovations in perioperative care and GI, integrating new technologies and methodologies to enhance service delivery.
• Drive process improvement initiatives using Lean Six Sigma methodologies to streamline work flows and enhance operational efficiency.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field required; MBA required.
• Licensed RN, CCP, PA, or APRN.
• Experience leading Six Sigma methodologies and process improvement initiatives preferred.
• Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience in surgical services management, with at least 3 years in a senior management or director-level role.
• Proven track record of strategic planning, process improvement, and operational management within surgical services.
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and healthcare compliance.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, physicians, and external partners.
