Job Abstract

1. JOB CRITERIA AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

1. Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned

   1. Checking schedules and organizing patient flow

   2. Accompanying patients to exam/procedure room

   3. Assisting patients as needed with walking transfers, dressing, preparing for exam, etc.

   4. Performing EKGs, vital signs (manual), venipuncture, and injections

   5. Collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting providers/nurses with various procedures

   6. Charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls, and providing pertinent information

   7. Understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families

2. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned

   1. Sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.

   2. Completing forms/requisitions and pre-certifications/prior-authorizations as needed; managing and updating EMR to ensure that information is complete

3. Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned

   1. Setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocols

   2. Cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control

   3. Ordering, sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms

4. Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned

   1. Respecting/promoting patient rights

   2. Responding appropriately to emergencies

   3. Sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution preferred.

• If registered, current MA registration.

1. 1. Experience:

   • One year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office preferred.

   • Experience in cardiology preferred.

1. 1. 1. Other Skills:

      • EMR Knowledge (ECW and Meditech experience preferred but not required)

      • Must possess a current CPR certification

Knowledge:

1. 1. 1. 1. Knowledge of basic medical terminology and organization services.

         2. Knowledge of legal and ethical considerations related to patient information.

         3. Knowledge of organization's policies and procedures.
