The Technology Trainer plays a vital role in enhancing the technical proficiency of our staff. This position is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering engaging training programs to equip employees with the knowledge and skills necessary for optimal technology use within the City of Westerville. The ideal candidate possesses a blend of in-depth technical expertise, a passion for teaching, and an ability to communicate complex concepts in an accessible manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK

Training Needs Analysis: Conduct skills gap assessments to proactively identify areas where technology training can enhance employee performance and productivity.
Curriculum Design and Development: Create comprehensive training plans, covering hardware, software, applications, and IT best practices. Develop a range of instructional materials including manuals, presentations, e-learning modules, and hands-on activities to accommodate different learning styles.
Training Delivery: Conduct engaging training sessions in various formats, including classroom instruction, webinars, workshops, one-on-one coaching, and self-paced learning resources. Adapt training approaches to suit the audience, ensuring knowledge transfer and understanding. Develop and deliver training that maximizes technology adoption and drives innovation.
Collaboration: Work closely with subject matter experts, technology stakeholders, and departmental trainers to develop and continuously improve training content. Partner with the Information Systems department to proactively train employees on new technologies, system upgrades, and security practices.
Knowledge Base Maintenance: Create and maintain a centralized repository of training materials and documentation for easy employee access.
Training Evaluation: Evaluate training effectiveness through feedback, assessments, and performance metrics. Use insights to refine training programs and ensure they align with evolving organizational needs.
Train-the-Trainer Support: Mentor and support departmental trainers, providing guidance and resources to enhance their training delivery skills.
Vendor Management: Identify, evaluate, and collaborate with external training vendors as needed to supplement in-house training initiatives.
Special Projects: Lead and contribute to special technology training projects as assigned, ensuring the successful rollout and adoption of new technologies across the organization.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Education, or a related field or equivalent experience.
Minimum of two years of experience as a trainer in a corporate or adult educational setting is preferred.
Proven ability to design and deliver engaging, effective training programs on technical topics.
Expertise in core organization-used software and hardware, as well as familiarity with emerging technology trends.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated proficiency in using instructional design methodologies.
Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills.
Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) a plus.
