COMMUNITY WORKER
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of a Principal, serve in a liaison capacity between the school, home and community; facilitate home and community understanding of school programs and objectives and secure parent involvement in school activities.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Contact parents at their homes, obtaining information about students which will help teachers and providing information to the parents about the school and its policies and programs. E
Make referrals for students and their families to community agencies for free glasses, clothing, counseling, welfare, driver education, housing, employment and medical care. E
Assist parents with application for services; may transport parents to appointments as necessary. E
Encourage parents to attend and participate in workshops, meetings and advisory committees. E
Translate for non_English-speaking parents. E
Maintain records of home visits and referrals. E
Assist in the school improvement program by assisting in the classroom, purchasing supplies and coordinating volunteer services.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Any combination equivalent to some high school and one year of experience in school_related and community activities.
