Position Summary:
The Engineering Supervisor focuses on leading the electrical/software team through innovation, development and maintenance of product designs. Major new developments are a key responsibility of this position. The supervisor will direct new products from ideation through successful launch to the market place and hold design responsibility throughout their life cycle. This position also has responsibility for maintenance of existing designs. This includes value engineering and design updates and corrections. The position also oversees design documentation and provides design calculations needed to verify suitability for service, occasionally working with third party agencies to gain design approval.
Principle Duties (includes, but is not limited to):
· Act as technical lead on assigned new product development projects, which entails project management and reporting, in a cross functional team environment.
· Understand industry and customer specifications and apply them in the product development process.
· Oversee the engineering & test lab activities to achieve planned outcomes within budgeted cost, quality and time constraints.
· Evaluate and develop improved techniques for the control of product design, quality, reliability and safety.
· Coordinate with all operational and business unit functions as required to perform job duties.
· Maintain an ongoing awareness of design technologies, applications and concepts pertinent to the Westlock product ranges and markets to ensure that the competencies within the company are maintained accordingly.
· Lead, manage and develop the intellectual capital within the Electrical/Software engineering group.
· Support the Company’s existing quality accreditation and systems, ensuring that the process conforms to the quality manuals.
· Ensure the Company’s design tools, test facilities, and systems are maintained to lead industry standards; appropriate backups and disaster recovery plans are in place.
· Ensure adherence to NPD process, Internal Change Control Procedures, and all ISO 9001 procedures as applicable.
· Oversight of work to include computer-aided design, prototyping, testing and optimization.
· Interface with customers and suppliers to understand needs, develop applications, and discover opportunities.
· Interface with existing and new vendors to specify optimized materials required in new and existing products.
· Interface with Product, Process and Operational Excellence Engineers and managers to develop innovative solutions to product design related problems.
· Utilize collaborative design processes, including, but not limited to DFMEA, 3P and kaizen to enhance innovation and prevent problems.
· Additional responsibilities related to this role as may be required by the business.
· Periodic domestic and international travel up to 25%.
Essential Qualifications / Experience:
· Bachelors Degree in Computer Eng., Electrical Eng., Computer Science or equivalent.
· Minimum 3-5 years in manufacturing and product development experience
· Minimum 1-3 years of engineering leadership experience
· Working knowledge of C and/or C++ programming
· Experience integrating RTOS and ADC circuits preferred
· Experience integrating digital interfaces / protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, RS232, RS485, IO-LINK, MODBUS, CAN, HART, Profibus, Ethernet) preferred
· Ability to lead projects with cross functional teams for co-located and remote teams
· Product design and development expertise.
· Team player with individual initiative and decision making ability.
· Strong communication, project management, organizational and time management skills.
